Hey y'all,

Pretty sure someone here would know... a topic was started on TC but it never got a definite answer.
I was thinking they are identical (C12) :

Then it was mentioned that the Hornet item might be a bit thinner.
Could someone confirm (or refute)?

Measurements from the Hornet part :

Overall height (including Tamiya logo) - 8.40mm
Height at screw holes - 3.20mm
Inside depth (measured at the side, not the centre of the indentation) - 6.75mm

:)

;) One goes on the other. they are the same. Maybe the difference comes from the manufacturing period. Like the gearboxes between lunchy and grasshopper. But they are the same. I mounted 1 gh model on my frog

Thanks, what really only matters is if they're interchangeable (not so much cosmetics). :y:

Frog cover has the holes at 9 & 3 o' clock & "TAMIYA" is moulded horizontally, Hornet/Grasshopper the holes are at 1 & 7 & TAMIYA is moulded to be horizontal when fitted :)

I used a Hornet one on my son's Brat. I'm pretty sure it is less deep, but it worked anyway.

Edit:

(note Tamiya logo not horizontal)

External height (from the mounting face to the top, not including the raised logo) is very approximately 7mm. So with the logo and the raised ring inside, could be 8.4mm.

Edit 2: Just looked at my other son's (original) Frog and the height of that cover is about 12mm and the logo is recessed (but in line with the holes).

Edit 3: The pinion does not protrude out of the side of the gearbox, so in fact a flat plate would do just as well.
