Hello. New member to TamiyaBase!
Amazing site!

I was really young when I acquired a lot of these, and am finally getting to the point of bringing them back to life!!!
Very exciting.

I am the proud original owner of:
Wild Willy M38
Fox
2 Frogs
2 XR-311
and recently acquired a Blackfoot

Non-Tamiya include:
Xray M18
Kyosho Raider
Futaba FX-10

All in various states...
Current 'hot' projects on the bench are the Wild Willy and XR-311's

Wild Willy - Looking for the nut/bolt combination that works the steering servo and the steering linkage within the case.
I believe it is part H7 and C4 if my research is right.

XR-311 - looking for the suspension rods with springs, both fronts and backs...believe it's 4 per car...
Both the cars are flat on the ground, with no bounce.

Thanks for the add...looking forward to looking around the site more.

Yes...exactly that...or an alternative method of attaching the servo horn to the arm inside the case.

I read Jonny's restore thread but I didn't see how he laid out the servos and speed control.

Apparently my research was bad...haha...thanks for Id'ing the part!

Actually, you are both right, and I believe you revealed that there is not only two different Wild Willy manuals, (the Long Wheel Base and the Short Wheel Base), but your's is a third variant I've not seen before.

Your WW is the later LWB, but your manual has the layout of the LWB manual and the part numbering from the SWB version.
There you go, one mor proof that there were no distinct versioning of Tamiya models. the models changed fluently over time where parts and manuals were updated out of sync. (that's my opinion at least) :-)

Cutout from my manuals:

Welcome on board B)

There was some discussion about the steering pip at the beginning of my Willy/Wheeler resto thread (www.tamiyabase....mitstart=0 so I can find it again) - apparently b5/c4 is a 4mm long M2 screw, the h7/k8 pip is a 3mm long, 3mm OD metal boss with M2 thread on the inside.

I say "metal" because the only time I've seen the "real" part was on a Willys Wheeler in the early 80s & I just can't remember what material it was

It's usually missing, none of the 4 or 5 I've handled in more recent times had it. I "made" some by turning down some brass M2 Acorn nuts, IIRC Waterbok had the other half of the packet of 10 in partial trade for some parts - if you're really desparate I could "make" some more, but it's fiddly work & there will be a bit of lead time.

Can't help you with the XR311 suspension - I never really came up with a proper fix for mine, IIRC I used a combination of methods, buying several borked cars to make a couple of good ones, plus experimenting with plastic strips to make addtional leaf springs. It's not just the torsion bars that are fragile, the square sockets in the wishbones also break at the corners. The re-release (and re-re-release) XR311 has a modified setup, I think with metal reinforcing strips & slots in the wishbones - so are not directly compatible, but a wholesale upgrade may be a possibility?

:)

Welcome grandall400, looking forward to seeing Pic's of your rebuilds. Andy.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

I should have some of the ones Jonny made so if you'r interrested send me a PM.
I think I also got the original ones (are brass i think) so I could make a picture of this scarce part.
