This reminded me that I still need to finish this - reduce the size of the connecting nut & bolt, & box in the whole connecting contraption & add detail parts to make it look more like the real thing.
More pressing though is replacing the ESCs. The Modelsport Trident XT-20s are no longer available, but I believe they are just rebadged Mtroniks Auto 20 units. This is a bit of a problem, they are far too "clever" for their own good in this application, automatically setting max throttle & brake/reverse from the first inputs you give them each time you turn them on. On a buggy that's easy enough, you just hold it up by the bumper & give it full beans one way then the other, but with this thing it's not practical, and doing it on the ground just doesn't seem to work as it should. I need two (or possibly four, depending on turn rating) ESCs that are little more than 3-step MSCs but without the resistor heat/power wastage issues.... IDK how many TEU101BK ESCs I have spare but they may be ideal, despite their issues. I may have enough new 1060 type ESC if not

I used to run TEU101BK in all my vehicles.
No problem running lipo on them as long as you use a lipo alarm. But the most annoiyng thing about those is the high pitch sound they make. 1060 esc and a small 25x25mm or 30x30mm fan for closed area should work no problem. Cost vs spec, 1060 is a very good spec esc for what it is. These days there are not much esc around that is cheaper. But in a pinch, MSC with a 30x30fan over the resistor might work. Maybe make a fan rack over the MSC`s if you need to run several ones? |
