That wiring looks right, well according to how mine was wired up in the past...

Yep, that wiring looks correct :y: ... which is odd, becasue I would have expected the magic smoke to escape with two motors

Motor turns - how many times the wire on the inside of the motor is wound round each part of the bit that spins - fewer turns means shorter battery life, but more power/speed.

The standard "silvercan" motors that come with most cars are 27 turns, a mild hopup would be the Tamiya Sport Tuned motor (not to be confused with other brands that are also "sport tuned") is 23T, and is around 30% faster. A 19T is a bit faster still, at 13T would be pretty mental. going the other way, a 35T is a mild detune, crawlers & scalers tend to use 45, 55, or 65T motors.

ESCs are rated in terms of the maxiumum power motor the ESC can handle - for example a "20T" ESC can handle motors of 20 turns or higher (20T, 27T, 35T and so on) but not lower turn/higher power motors (19T, 13T, etc). Basically, you need an ESC that has a number lower or the same as the motor.

Cheers for explaining turns and esc spec. I can understand it, basically less turns, lower resistance - higher current.

Looking around for the 54358 'torque tuned' motors mentioned earlier, I've found them for about

So the question is, where do you go from here ... I think the battery is ok, I've had Ansmann batteries in the past and although they are a bit lacking in punch, capacity & value compared to my preferred option ( Vapextech ) I don't think the battery is to blame.

The motors are a huge question mark, so I'd suggest swapping them for silvercans - I did have a look in my spares box & although I have a few, they're all of different types & ages, which won't be a good idea long term :( ... so I guess that means you buying a pair, or swapping them from some of your other cars for a test... you can get motors in and out of the gearboxes on that chassis by just taking a wheel off to improve access, if you're careful/patient.

Unfortunately it does mean buying a higher rated (lower T number) ESC as I'm certain that even a pair of silvercan will kill the current one ... I guess the best price will be something like an M-troniks Sniper RV-12 at around 25 GBP, posted. That will give you very little headroom for putting in faster motors in the Bullhead, but realistically the next step up for this chassid would be a "no limit" ESC, which will cost at least twice as much.

TBH I can think of a no cost way of taking this any further :(

Thanks again for all the replies, I need to go and think about costs... I do like the look of those vapex batteries maybe a couple of "7.2v RX Power Pack Rechargeable Batteries 3700 mAh" batteries would be a good investment for the fleet of cars, should I go for the next capacity up? The 3700mAh are the best value
