Which Brushless motor for DT-02 San Viper? 11 years 8 months ago #33313

Just got a cheap Viper chassis & I have the TBLE-02 ESC.

I really want to make a budget brushless basher... any advice on which motors i can use in it? Also, any other steps needed, or just pop it in, set up ESC & go?

This ESC is especially designed for use with the TBLM series of Tamiya Brushless Motors (Sensored-Type, 10.5T, 12.5T, 14.5T, 16.5T).

nb: Quoted from Tamiya USA web site :)

stick to brushed, cheaper and easier to make your setup waterproof.
get a steel pinion and if not already done ballbearings.
dont get the balldiff the geardiff is way more robust for the DT series

Great thanks... Also - which colours wires on the ESC (Blue, Orange, Yellow) line up to a, b & c on the motor?

It doesn't matter with brushless, but I would connect B to yellow and the blue and orange to either of the remaining a and c order that gives you forward motion.

OK - Back for more help! I have got it all set up, soldered & plugged in, but it's not working well. The motor just judders a bit & stops & starts. On the below video, the throttle is on all the time.

I tested the solders by running a wire straight from the ESC to the pin on the motor & it's the same... I also tested it on another TBLE02S (switched to brushless) and it was the same.

Can anyone help?

What you're doing there is "free revving", it's been received internet wisdom right from the birth of brushless technology that to that to a (brushless) motor will kill it.

I've never really looked into the veracity of that (but on the other hand I've remembered it & never tested a motor like that); two minutes Googling came up with a catalogue of failures, scans from manuals, etc etc.

Hi - I'll take that on board & not run it without load. But any ideas on the fault? The stop/start in the vid is not me, the transmitter throttle is on all the time. The magnet is fine, i just had the can apart & can't see any damage.

Could still be damage to the sensors from what I've read ... I think there are some more things to try though: try the motor in the car in case there's something clever shutting the motor off to prevent it overrevving while being run without load; does the TBLE02S have BEC? if not, does your RX? Test everything else in the system by substitution (battery, RX, TX, crystals if appropriate, maybe even the servo); Is it RF interference?

Someone I know successfully used the TBLE02S ESC with a non Tamiya 10.5T BL motor
Makes quite a cheap setup I think.
