I think its time to get a good lipo battery because the NiMH battery packs I have are old and lack the punch they once had. So I've been looking at 2S 7.4v lipo batteries but they're all square shape and I'm not sure if they will fit in the oval battery slot of my Tamiya Thunder Dragon. I'm thinking there's no way a square rectangular battery will fit in an oval slot so does anyone know which lipo batteries will fit?

There are round boxed Lipo's available.
I have two looking like these: www.rcstation.c...ts_id=3516 -Lars Signature now gets correct formatting if you edit it in your Profile. Use normal BBcode if you want.
www.tamiyabase.com was formatted automatically. |

That should give your new brushless system a very nice extra punch!
Took me a minute to realize you had ordered the cool Schumacher set up. These battery packs should be useable with more chassis having the same problem. For example my own TA01s... I modded my own halfwitted answer from before. |

Yeah I ordered the Speed Passion brushless motor system. I'm not sure if that's the same as the Schumacher setup you're talking about. For 90 dollars it seems like a good deal. I'm also curious to see how it performs with some lipo batteries. I'm using some old nimh batteries I got for my electric on-road car about 5 years ago and it seems to run ok with them but I get the feeling it could be better.
I have never heard of those Intellect lipo batteries from RC Station but I might give those a try. I also found some Duratrax batteries at Tower Hobbies that I think should also work. www3.towerhobbi...LXYYS5&P=7 I broke my buggy a few days ago so I'll have to wait until my replacement chassis comes in the mail before I can start playing again. I made a few small jumps and I somehow cracked the chassis where the rear end assembly mounts to the chassis. Luckily there's still some spare parts available on ebay. |

Too bad you broke the chassis.
But at least it keeps you building! I'd be curious to see the picture of what exactly broke... I think the brand name of your set is "Schumacher" and the type "Speed Passion" so the names would both be accurate. Or together even... If this brushless runs like I think it will, I'll definitely consider putting it in one of my own off roaders. |

I couldn't believe it broke from taking some small jumps. So I used some Loctite epoxy and glued it back together as a temporary solution until the new chassis arrived but when I came home today I was surprised to see it came already! So I will start working on it tonight and hopefully my new lipo battery and Hyperion charger will arrive soon. Once I get the lipo battery I will try making a video to show how it performs with this motor. Right now its fast enough for a small buggy but I'm still used to the much faster speeds of my nitro trucks.
Anyways here's a picture of what broke. It broke on both sides and I'm hoping this isn't a weak point that's also going to break again on my new chassis. |

My Intellect lipo battery that larbut suggested finally came in the mail. I charged it up and took my Thunder Dragon out for a test drive and I was shocked at the differece a lipo battery makes. I just pulled on the trigger and I could not believe that my buggy was doing a wheelie! I don't think all this power is good for the gears so after that I started going easy on the throttle. I don't have much experience with this battery yet but so far it seems like a good deal compared to batteries that cost twice as much.
