Re: Tamiya nitro 14 years 9 months ago #5959

it was just a thought, i am not serious about it, yet. but i like the sound of real engines :side:

So I do - proper 4-stroke engines that is: V-twins, big singles, inline 4's, a V8 on a car, etc - that's why I find the demented mosquito on PCP NEEEEEEEEEEEEE of those tiny capacity nitro diesels so offensive  ;)

the sound of real engines

Can't deny there's something to it...
But if you wanna go ultimately awesome on your Hopper, then put in one of these fuell cells :

got some water in my ESC

B) B) B)

And a sound module of course.

Edit - wonder how fast that really is but it looks very Back To The Future.

I remember seeing a clip of some experimental sound generators (basically a big tangle of pipes, air powered via a turbine in the middle of a 4WD drivetrain) on a pair of RC cars - the units must have huge parasitic drag because I'm sure they were using some high power brushless motors, but were only going Sport Tuned fast - but they sounded great - the proper "BRAAAAAP" of a road car inline 4 with little to no silencing :D

How about sticking a 2nd RX on the same frequency as your hopper on that, with a servo to operate the throttle? ;) :D :silly:

You don't want a nitro - skanky pain in the backside timewasters.... seriously, having to retune for different weather/temperature conditions, the blisters from yanking minature pullstarts hundreds of times (Before the string breaks...again, fuel that becomes useless after a month from new (& the price of it) & then theres the hours of cleaning the greasy muck off afterwards, not to mention the chemical nastiness of nitro fuels! You won't be told (I refused to listen too), so if you're gonna do it, buy a cheap one to find out how bad they are! As far as nitro-ing a hopper goes, the only thing I can suggest that wouldn't take a huge amount of work, would be to fit something small (Like a Cox) in place of the motor (& you'll need to gear it up & come up with a centrifugal clutch). A 0.12 (Or bigger) is likely to shred the gearbox, & anything smaller probably won't have the beans to impress. A better option would be to find a chassis where the engine could be mounted in the main part, like the pics above (This is how it's usually done). I suspect it would be easier & cheaper to just buy one of the chinese RTR cars eg HSP Bug Crusher etc
