Buy now build at xmas? Interesting concept, I hadn't even considered that!
Is it foresight in that case, cos all the prices go up at xmas to make the most of an xmas rush? I wonder if anyone will forget these NIBs in their lofts with the excitement of other gifts, perhaps later move out without emptying the loft? Exciting thought! A good example of what I was on about is the Honda Super Dream - there were millions of them about in the 80s, everyone hated them cos they were so slow & heavy, they were worthless, you couldn't give them away, so nearly all of them ended up scrapped. Nowadays, they make a mint, the few that survived being lovingly restored. It's not something you buy cos they're good or cheap, they sell to people who "Had one back then & miss it", their rarity driving the price up. Mk2 escorts are another good example, as are VW campers & Beetles - back in the 80s you'd rather throw your shoes away than get into scraping them off your soles, today they're near priceless

Really? Do you know anyone restoring one? I'd love to send them a photo of what I did to my 400NC |

I swear I've seen that before somewhere, did it find it's way into any mags?
The 400 version was a good bike, the 250 was terrible - they used the same lump & sleeved it to sell as learner-legal, hence the term "wet dream" - seriously underpowered, most wouldn't pull top gear. This is also another part to the story, as it's the 250 version everyone wants now!

My friend had the 250 RS I never liked the styling of them they looked like a 125 but they where a lot better bikes than the superdreams. One of my neighbours actually still runs one it sounds like my brothers old xl250r now that was a great bike

Same engine, just silver instead of black.... Although the XL had a habit of eating the camshaft journals/head quicker than the RS for some bizarre reason (& headstock bearings). But yeah, both much pokier than the 'dream & the RS was much more flickable too.
Ran my first one into the ground (Bless it), the only bike I ever owned that failed its MOT due to rot!

My mate's got one of those at the mo & he said pretty much the same as you - V impressed! Unfortunately it's off the road at the mo, waiting for me to get around to rebuilding the wheels & re-do the wiring for him.
As for the plugs, yep I've got an NTV650 at the mo & know exactly what you mean!

I remember having trouble with my rear wheel the gold rim had started to corrode badly starting to break up and bubble. NTV 650 Transalp is another fantastic Honda very jealous of you if you ever sell her give me a nod. I think i still have a brand new haynes for that bike somewhere on my bookshelf as the africa twin and transalp shared the same manual.
I think i have the Honda tool as well for the plugs in the bottom of one of my toolboxes as i eventually relented and bought one it was such an awkward job. Its like a ridiculously long plug extractor with a socket attachement on the back of it. |
