Reversing not allowed? 11 years 10 months ago #32326

Hi gang! :)

So, perusing the manuals for the Tamiya TEU series of ESCs I've noticed there's a function to block driving in reverse

Manual says :

"Allows you to enter races forbidding reverse running"

Well that sounds very serious!

But why would reverse running be forbidden? What races are we talking about?

Please enlighten me ;)

Cheers,

Ole

Dunno why, but some race series ban reverse on ESCs.

Maybe in the olden days, not all ESCs had reverse, so this was done to level the playing field. My Traxxas TRX-3 (a former racer, my profile pic) came with a non-reversing ESC.

As Martin says, I don't know why, but most "serious" races I know of do not allow reverse.

Is that a new thing, or has it allways been like that?

Sadly, I've never seen proper RC races .. looking in my newly aquired RC catalogues, racing in Japan looks to be serious business! (even back in the early 80's)

I'd love to hear war-stories/anecdotes :y:

Ole

It's to reduce the incidence of racers wiping someone else's car out when recovering to the track after an off; theoretically a marshall will only release a car when it's safe.

If Occupational Health and Safety, Workplace Health and Safety or Government had their way, every time someone spun out in a race not only would they not be allowed to reverse back out, but there would have to be six emergency vehicles arrive with barriers and flashing lights. The race would have to be stopped till there was an inquirey as to why they spun out. If the problem was driver error, they'd be banned from racing for the rest of the season, and fined. If it was a possible mechanical fault in the car, the car would be impounded for a complete inspection and the owner fined. If it was a radio fault, they'd impound all the owners controller/recievers for full analysis, and the owner fined. If it was caused by another driver hitting them, both would be banned from racing all season.....and fined. If it was deemed and act of God, the driver would be banned from racing and both the driver and God would be fined. If the exact cause could not be established then they would totally ban R/C car racing in the whole of that country, dig up all the tracks and of course, fine all R/C car owners by implimenting an R/C car tax.
