Howdo from Brighton! 10 years 9 months ago #36756

Hi all,

I'm Gareth. Been into r/c cars since I was a kid. My first decent car was a Mardave Ministock but after that it was Tamiya all the way with a TL01 Impreza, FF01 Mondeo, Stadium Blitzer, re-re Grasshopper and possibly my favourite from my wife for Christmas, a re-re Lunchbox. I've wanted a Lunchbox for 25 years so over the moon on that one.

Anyways I thought I would join the forum as firstly I've been enjoying reading the forum for a while now and secondly, I sadly need to raise some money and sell a couple of things from all my hobbies and a couple of the cars have to go.

Cheers

Gareth

Thanks for the welcome guys. I've not built my Lunchbox yet and shockingly, the Grasshopper I built the chassis about 6 years ago but never got round to painting or decalling the body so it is sitting all nice and road rash free in its box. I'll dig out the Impreza later for a photo. As we are in the middle of renovating our house, most of my stuff is stacked up in boxes in one room so it is difficult to find things!

Christmas Day Lunchbox unwrapping. Is it weird that I enjoyed sniffing the tyres!!

I did unearth the Blitzer and the Mondeo though as those are the two I would like to part with.

This is the Blitzer. I bought it as a runner about 20 years ago. The rear tyres were shot as you'd expect but it did run. Came with an awful buggy body and not the original truck. Anyway I stripped it down to restore it....and ran out of money and never progressed. As you can see I bought new tyres for front and rear and the body post parts tree so they are all new in packet. The truck is missing a few bolts, namely the ones to connect the front subframe to the tub. I'm not sure if anything else is missing apart from the circular gearbox cover piece that goes opposite the motor and I think I have that. If you could have a scan and see if anything obvious is not there, I can see if I have it in my box of misc stuff.

Here is the Mondeo.

I think the Parma motor is a stock motor as opposed to a mod. Quicker than a 540 though.

I think the Mondeo shell has had it.

But I did do this Chevy Monte Carlo many years ago. You'll have to excuse the random lack of rear arches. At the time I quite liked the sort of streamliner look it gave the body.

This car is missing one bolt to connect the front body post. Oh and I am aware that the rear posts are on upside down. I flipped them for storage and haven't turned them round yet!

So yes, any ideas of value would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome on board chap :y: :)

It's not going to be good news on values I'm afraid - due to re-releases & exchange rates, new Tamiya RC cars are the cheapest they've been, well, pretty much ever if you take inflation into account. This means that the value of used ones that are less than excellent has taken an absolute hammering.

The Mondeo was a big seller at the time, for selling now condition of the body & original wheels is everything, and even then they don't have much value - unbuilt, new in box ones have gone for 100-120 GBP, good ones with their box for around 50 GBP. Yours I'd estimate at 25 to 30 GBP at best. If the motor is the period upgrade Parma "K Stock" I think it is, taking it out & selling it seperately might well raise the take.

re the Blitzer, you don't have a truck there, you have an assortment of bits :( probably worth no more than 25 GBP. The new tyres & new in pack parts are probably worth almost the same sold seperately.

My advice would be to list as four lots on eBay - the Parma motor with a buy it now price of 12 to 15 GBP + post, the new blitzer tyres and parts at 20 or a little more + post, and list the other two as auctions - lots of pictures and a 7 or 10 day auction set to end on a sunday between 2100 & 2200 will raise the most. I'd check on parcel costs/sizes but the last time I sent low value cars, getting them into a small enough box cost 2.80 GBP 2nd class & overcharging on post will not win friends or higher final values.

Hi Jonny,

Thanks for the appraisal. A friend of mine who races has offered £35 for the Mondeo and a bunch of Hot Wheels Monster Jam die cast trucks as well. They are for future slot car conversion projects so worth having to me. Plus monster trucks are awesome obviously! So that sounds like a pretty good deal to be honest. I think he wants the Parma motor in the deal so I'm inclined to say yes now.

As for the Blitzer, based on your appraisal I think I may as well keep it really. A few more years in bits until I can bolt it back together isn't going to hurt it after all and I'm sure when the house is finished, the wife has gone back to work from maternity and I've paid for the upcoming stag does I can probably spend the final bit of money to get it back on the road.

Cheers
Gareth

:) I think that you should keep some cars and not send all. The blitzer is a good truck. Baby will grow up and you could run with it. You haven't a lot of work on it and you have the majority of the spares. You just miss time. And if you need, I should have some spares for it. ;)

Thanks, I think that's a great idea on keeping the truck. As you say it's almost there so shouldn't take too much to get it on the road.

My other major hobby is slot car racing and I have some high value ones I can sell to fund the stag does so I'll do that.

I've downloaded the Blitzer manual and I can see already some random bits I am missing. I'll make a list. Any help would be gratefully received! ☺
