Hi Guys,

Thanks for having me. I built an RC Tamiya with my son who is now hooked but we broke it.

Video here it wouldn't let me post a link so if you copy/paste that to the browser address bar it will work:

What could be wrong? It makes a terrible noise but all the cogs seem to work still. New motor?

Thanks for your help. If I can fix it my son will be really happy again.

It's a video so too big to upload.

The car is a TAMIYA RC 58630 Plasma Edge II TT-02B

Look after your motor pinion. Or maybe you didn't use the good holes for it in the support. Or used too long screws .

Really appreciate your help. Maybe I'll upgrade to a metal motor pinion. Do you think the motor is ok?

I can't see the vidéo. So you could take a picture of the pinion and the primary gear to see their state. Did you put all the bearings and greased gears?

Did the car work when you first built it but then stop working?  All of the gears in the TT-02 are protected so if it ever worked then they should be spaced correctly and nothing should be jamming them.  There are slots in the cans of most brushed motors.  Sometimes a rock can get in there or a tiny screw can get attracted by the magnets and then that will make a terrible noise and possibly jam the motor.  Check the slots in the motor and see if there is any foreign object in there.  If you attached the motor to the motor mount in the wrong holes but it was pretty close, it might have worked until the tips of the teeth wore off.  Remove the cover from over the motor gears and take a look (maybe post a picture of what you find).  It's also possible that the set screw that holds the pinion to the motor came loose.

Based on the sound in the video, I'd say you stripped the teeth on the spur gear, probably from using the wrong holes on the motor mount.

Thanks so much. It does coincide with it getting caked full of grass so I expect it's debris in the motor.

Good excuse for an upgrade I guess. 💪🏻

Thank you.

Sounds like a slipping pinion gear
