Hi all. I recently bought a blazer, something I've been trying to get for the last 40+ years! It's not 100% original, I don't really care about that, I'd like to get it running so I can use it...gently. It came without a pinion gear and from what I've been told it needs an 11 tooth gear. Now, I have a 15 tooth from my sand scorcher stash. I put it in and it seems to work but I'm afraid I'll tear up that plastic spur gear. I found one online, of course it's in Belgium, but is this what I need? And if so, is there somewhere in the states that has it? I'm hoping the pic goes through...

Hi Chris, my understanding of the Blazer and Toyota motors is that they came with the pinion already attached.
I think you’re right about it being 11 teeth on the pinion. I can’t help you with that pinion image, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chip in. |

Many years ago we had a community effort to add pinion data to the Model DataBase.
Apparently the pinion for the Blazer and Hilux is 10t / 40dp. Signature now gets correct formatting if you edit it in your Profile. Use normal BBcode if you want.
www.tamiyabase.com was formatted automatically.

Not something I can help with, but "40dp" sounds wrong & seems to be in the "pinion" thread on the basis of uncorroborated data from one, no longer active member - so we can't check.
Your logic of an SRB pinion meshing with the Blazer spur gear, and SRB pinions being 0.6mod, so the spur gear (and the pinion you need) must also be 0.6mod checks - as long as your test pinion really is 0.6mod... As for number of teeth, I can find nothing apart from an exploded diagram that doesn't show all the teeth, but you could extrapolate that there are 11. Based on incomplete data, that pinion you found would appear to be the "correct" one, but I can understand you're reluctant to order it from overseas. All I can really suggest is leaving in 24 or 48 hours, taking your laptop to a different floor in you house, or searching on someone else's hardware - the number of times that works for me, and previously unavailable data or parts suddenly become searchable or local is absurd PS I also have a PDF on rebuilding 3-speed gearboxes that wasn't hosted anywhere online the last time I looked, I have tried to attach it
