How Do You Convert Tamiya's Washer, Bolts, Bearings, Nuts to Standard Names? 2 years 2 weeks ago #79336

Hi Tamiyabase friends, for example Tamiya calls a standard (black anodized or silver) M5x5 Grub screw as the BC2, the other Tamiya nuts, bearings, washers, connectors and bolts have their own letterings. How do you convert what's not propriety by Tamiya like screws, washers, nuts, connectors, bearings (like the Sand Scorchers MB1 front wheel ball bearings or the Novafox's BR3 ball bearing which seems standard), bolts and other parts that any non-R/C shop could carry and is actually a standard. Has anyone created a list of this conversion at least? Arrma and Traxxa seems to be the only one using world standard namings for these metric parts :-). The bearing do have the standard bearing names but the others are Tamiya's own naming convention it seems.

Thank you in advance.

God bless R/C modifiers.

How Do You Convert Tamiya's Washer, Bolts, Bearings, Nuts to Standard Names? 2 years 2 weeks ago #79339

Hi,
The 2 letter+number code used on hardware in Tamiya manuals are not a unique identifier for the hardware. It's just an identifier within that specific manual.
The unique identifying code (Tamiya code) is the part number (50577) in the example below.
Or, if you want to source the screw outside Tamiya, you must use the description given (3x10mm Tapping screw" in the case below.

For Ball Bearings, have a look at this article:

Hi, thanks sir Lars for the help.

If it's ok to suggest, could these illustrations, legends, explanations and links be consolidated to a section (maybe entitled 'Start Here: Terminologies and FAQs') so kids and the like who've just been inspired to go into the hobby (future generation of experts) after seeing an RC in action, in person (like we all have) may have an efficient page of links, meanings, usually asked and rarely asked questions and illustrations in one page, as complete as possible wherein studying things in that page accelerates one to an expert like no other site.

Thank you for listening and for your time, may we all be well. :-)

Hi, thanks sir Lars (I have to be honest I have to ask if the 50577 is a part number standard so you can find it in even non-RC specific hardwares

Hi, The part numbers, like 50577, are Tamiya's own part number. You can look them up in The DataBase . Open the Parts DataBase and search for 50577.
In some cases you will find more information to help you search for similar screws from generic suppliers.

(if it's alright to add more examples for the Start Here suggestionsir Lars, the part numbers from say Tamiya since it seems does seems to document the names on the manuals, the Star Here page could have names like the 'pinions' which also means the vague N19 or N20 parts so they know the word to look in the Database as fast as possible and is easier to memorize too than N20 or N19, accelerating every kid and the like who're truly new to become experts as efficiently fast as possible it'll be like an RC of all kinds of knowledge to trump all sites :-) It could even have a infogram style so like a map it's seen all at once instead of a globe how adapters and things for mods are installed like HPI 12mm hex adapters. I may be wrong that the N19 & N20 are called pinions)

No, the N19/N20 parts are not Pinions, but called "Ball Pins". This is clearly given in the manual that you have downloaded. (see the last pages)
Please spend more time studying the manual than typing long questions here.

Again, the "tag" (like N19) given components in the manual does not have a wider meaning. It's just a tag relevant for that manual. Because of that, it does not make sense to make a database on what those tags means and what the part is. That's what the part numbers are for.
And, before you ask, the early models did not have part numbers in the manuals, so you have to figure it out yourself.
