Lunchbox EVO 1 year 4 months ago #80581

I had a headache with pictures a couple of weeks ago and the Lunchbox EVO is the outcome. I'll post more pictures after I resize them.

I 3d printed the parts to get the gearbox pretty close to the original wheelbase and hight and to make the new Hornet steering plate stiffer. I used old 100mm shocks up front and the stock EVO ones out back. Flipping the steering servo and using the offset servo saver were necessary for everything to line up. Paint and new wheels and tyres are coming soonish. Gonna have MCI Racing do a set of custom colour decals.

Decided to just go with paint instead of decals. I'll probably get another body set at some point and go the custom colour colour decals.

Awesome! How did you do the marble effect on the purple?

When the base coat was almost flashed off I stuck clearance Dollar Tree (Poundland) open weave ribbon on top and hit it with the top coat. Paper doilies and loosely woven fabrics will also work. I used flea market fishnet stockings on the fairings, fenders and fuel tank of a Kawasaki street bike for a similar effect about 35 years ago.

Did "Purple Rain" start playing in anyone else's head just then? ;)

Thanks meister. It's a method I want to use since a lot of years but never had the "oportunity" or courage....

More like "Purple Haze" since I'm in a legal state. I'm slowly changing the non-vintage cars in my fleet to purple as I can afford body sets and decals.

Awesome work!

I plan on doing something similar with one of my Lunchboxes.
For my project I will use a SCX10 belt transmission and Traxxas Nitro 4-tec lower suspension mount which I`ve already bought a while ago.
Since Ampro Engineering never seem to finish the Lunchbox IRS conversion, I will do my own.
Mine will be similar to the RC10 6 speed conversion for the Nissan King Cab.
Up front I will use the Ampro kit, possible with Hornet Evo based steering.

The stock Hornet Evo seems a bit lumpy and regardless I got the idea above many moons ago, before Ampro IRS anyway...

Thank you. Stuffing the EVO gearbox in was pretty easy, but yes it's lumpy. I absolutely stink at CAD and was still able to make the parts to print on TinkerCad, I can put them on thingaverse if you decide to go that route. I'm hoping to finally have time to give it a good shakedown run this weekend.
