AE Tribute cars? 4 months 1 week ago #82292

I have mixed feelings about these.. when they first announced the Ultra Champ.. I thought it was a joke.. somebody getting creative with AI.. now they have Ultra Fox out.. and just announced the Ultra Rider... they call'm tributes.. most people I know call'm knock-offs.. but.. in a weird kinda way.. they are some of the coolest RC10s ever made.. very much in line with the super SRBs we used to build back in the early days.. borrow parts.. ideas.. from any car you came across.. I am in the process of building up an SRB for the 2026 AE Vintage Championships in Las Vegas later this year.. and that rear suspension on the Ultra Rider looks very cool..

My kinda mostly standard looking Hotshot with brushed motor did pretty well last year..

I actually like the Ultra Fox.
But shame they can`t come up with a design of their own.
Should at least paid Tamiya for the Fox name and obviously the near lookalike design and it should read Tamiya somewhere.
Bad business.

If someone had tried that with Traxxas it would be court case in matter of hours...

Spot on with the Traxxas comment, they are vicious.

I just saw the Fox half sibling and wondered how they could do that legally myself, maybe a few bucks to Mr Tamiya and co.....

Didn't realize there was an entire series.... AE is OK but I just finished an RC10DS and they really should have called it the RC10NI.

NI meaning not included..... I mean really, no motor, no esc, no pinion, no pinion grub screw, no steering servo horn, no steering servo horn screw, on and on.... LOL

Jim if I 'm not too crazy, the rc10ds, was the onroad version of the rc10 with a nice Mustang body?

I dreamed of this chassis. And the mustang body. But I didn't know it was so nude.

Another dream rc was the rc10t3. I saw it in a magazine and always liked it.

Agreed Flo, I really enjoyed my RC10L3 Oval car of 1990. I will never forget how spoiled building Tamiya kits made me when first I opened the L3 box. A true racers car, tiny box, bare chassis, no motor, wheels, tires, body, bearings or anything. Beautiful car but super expensive back then..... Great for tennis court racing..
