Hey all...

I've been a bit quite lately. With the birth of my second daughter, I've been a bit preoccupied. That and the ever increasing church life has got me spending less time with my models. But finally I got my hands on a Sand Scorcher....

I'm not too sure how much of it is original, and how much re-release, but I'm super excited none the less...

Jonny - This is where your infinite wisdom will come in handy. You can tell me whats the deal with my new toy... :woohoo:

The one thing the previous owner told me, was the shocks are RC4WD shocks designed and built for the purpose of Sand Scorcher replacements. The original shocks are in the box too, they just in need od a rebuild.

So, what you guys thing?

Nice, as far as my knowledge goes but think I see loads of old Mk 1 parts on the front and rear.

Hey all...

Congrats for the new born ! I know what this means, my second daughter came 6 weeks ago...and since i haven't time to do anything on my models...in addition to that i'm moving to our new house..... !

Well your Scorcher looks good and even if knowledge isn't as goos as JR's i can tell you a few things i've learned during my Rough Rider resto :

- Body looks original ( Big front fenders )
- Steering servo mount isn't original, missing the steering linkage
- Re-re shocks, the rear ones look longer than the original ones
- MK1 parts, rear suspension arms, the part with the 2 little M3 little screws to hold the front suspension spring

I think it's a perfect base for a nice resto, and as Waterbok said, you got the door handles which are very rare and extrmely hard to get.

Hi Louis, I was only thinking the other day (probably the 1st of October ;) ) that we hadn't heard much from you recently :)

I don't think I can add a lot to what's already been posted ... the other things I noticed where the missing antenna tab off the rear cage, the missing front body post upper piece (it's not the same on the re-re)...

Shame it's been "modernised", or as I like to call it, butchered  The forward steering servo mod is dreadful ... you know it's a bodge when you have to cut the servo too

I think you've got a few options - restoring it with original parts will be expensive & difficult/slow, using re-re bits will be merely expensive. I'd be thinking along the lines of more "period sympathetic" mods, such as an RC Channel front bumper/cage & making my own FRP top deck & fittings.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it :y:

Thanks everyone.

Ya I know it's a little bit mixed and matched. The previous owner sent it to me with the original box, and in the box is the original bumpers, and most of the small original parts that's missing on it now.

He told me the original shocks are in the box, he just wasn't interested in trying to recondition them. I also have two original bumpers, one bent, one perfect. Once again the previous owner admitted to not installing it due to its ugliness in his eyes. And I also have a spare clear radio compartment, exhausts, complete front suspension, manual, rims and tires, and complete chassis. He also said he converted the steering because he didn't have the pushrods to complete the steering in the way it should be completed.

So when it arrives here, I'll do a detailed breakdown with pictures, of what I have, and what I need. The only thing that I will say for now, is I've grown quite fond of how the bodywork looks, so I don't see myself changing that anytime soon.

But only time will tell...

Got the previous owner to send me pics of the parts.

He is also sending me a rerelease clod buster, and a original Kyosho Mad Force.
