Shikkediel forever...
So now that the axle mod is working, let's tear it all down again. I decided to go ahead with fabricating new brackets because of an unexpected spring mount (the official name) scarcity. The ones that remained for use on the front suspension turned out the be an uneven pair... So I fiddled around with my drill tower and file set : Not too shabby. Holes for the shafts are placed more towards the outside, making the angle on the adjuster a bit smaller. The bracket is also sticking out less than before so the 540 should clear in all circumstances now... Besides that, I replaced the counter gear in the gearbox - reducing the rattling sound. |

Tapping threads inside carbon reinforced F103 steering knuckles :
Adapted Super Hornet suspension arms, new bumper and Manta Ray screw pins (to keep the knuckles in place) : And better looking "button" screws for nose reinforcement... Black nuts on the FRP underneath (and a few screws in better condition, replaced after taking this picture) : |

CVAs were fitted... with a lot of trouble.
They're still slightly too long despite adjustment, giving a bit of camber (the wrong way) when there's no load on the front. I could put on different brackets on top or make the suspension shaft a bit shorter but it'll do... Practically I don't think it'll be of much influence : But I did fiddle around a bit more after taking this picture so it's minimal now. Made a cross link to connect and reinforce the damper stays : Epoxied one reinforced adjuster : Why? Because otherwise the #1 RC brand name on the right would be upside down. Borrowed the shell from my other Grasshopper for the pics... |

O-rings under the piston would also reduce the shaft length ... I was never hot on trigonometry so I can't do the maths ... my guess is one would do it |

Already put two of 'em in there.
So imagine the camber I let myself get away with when they were on my other Grasshopper. Not having much of clue, I thought that cutting the springs shorter would be a good solution. And then there's the steering rod that I cut and bent a bit so it would sorta fit... Having better standards these days. |
