Vintage Tyrrell P34 build 13 years 6 months ago #20559

I was lucky enough to get hold of a half finished vintage 58003 Tyrrell some time ago.
As you can see from the pictures below, the "kit" arrived as a time machine. Just like someone had started building, lost interest, and put it all away in the attic.

Here is what I started with:

The chassis was half built, but nothing else done. Many of the parts were taken or fallen off the sprues.

I disassembled everything, gave everything a good clean, and I'm ready for assembly.

I got carried away and forgot to take pictures during the rear-end build, so here it is after it's put together again.

Yep, like that!
It always strikes me as odd that these old 1/12s are nowhere near as popular/collectible as the less rare (Or nice) 1/10 plastic cars

Me too, but I don't mind as I like the oldest 1/12s more :-)

Same here, they seem to be better thought out than the later stuff, plus there's the historical aspect (A big company's first RC models).

Can't complain though, if they're not popular it means the collectors will be so busy fighting over Monster Beetles & SRBs that the prices of the nicer cars remains relatively low!

I really like the cool geometry of the six-wheeler. It's so beautifully simple and still advanced in some ways.
Note the spring-suspended front end. Much like the rear end of the 934 and 935 models.

Wow Nice, much the same reason I got the HP TWB, beautiful engineering :woohoo:
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

The engineering sure is beautiful, but sometimes you can see the effects of reusing parts from previous models, you have to "adapt"...

These are all the parts required to mount the front bumper, with front retainers for the body. Lots of screws, washers, and spacers...

And here it is mounted:

Slow progress, I know, but I have lots of time :-)

I always try to complete a model with proper period correct radio gear. This time is no different, but I don't have a NIP vintage Radio set to match the New built model.
So, I removed the radio gear from my other P34 ,and restored the radio gear as best I could.

The main problem is the servos and receiver which at some time had been glued to something.

Before:

I started off with a regular fine file, and went from there to sand paper in various grades all the way to Autosol and finally plastic polishing compound:

They did not turn out as well as I had hoped, probably because I did not take enough time on each step. Anyway, I'm ok with the result and move on to mounting them.
