Hotshots, done! 11 years 2 months ago #35309

An ultra short build thread, jumping straight to the finished product... :blush:

Anyway, I'm really happy to have finished both a Mk.1 and a Mk.2 Hotshot. Working with the Hotshot article here on TamiyaBase inspired me to have a go at assembling a Mk.1 Hotshot. I had a few of the spacial Mk.1 parts from a Hotshot I got ages ago , but I had to spend quite some time on ebay to collect the rest.

During that shopping spree I bought a couple of Hotshot Mk.2's where one turned out to be new-built and in excellent condition. So that is the other one on the pictures below (no.3)

The Mk.1 (no. 7) has all the correct parts belonging to an early Mk.1: the front bumper and bumper stay, smaller dimensioned front uprights, front axles with only 1 engraved ring, the special Mk.1 gearbox, the correct resistors, etc. The Mk.1 is a restoration, but with a lot of new parts, including a NIB original bodyset and new screw bags.

The Mk.2 is, as mentioned a new-build, and a late Mk.2. The resistors are different from the Mk.1, which I believe where one of the latest changes made to the Hotshot production.

I hope you like them :-)

Nice :y:

Just how many Tamiya cars have distinct mk.1 & mk.2 versions? I wonder how many cars you'd actually need to have to have every permutation of car?

Off the top of my head:

Grasshopper - not sure of the number, but there are some from before the Hornet release with different features;
"Black" version of early Porsche;
Wild Willy - SWB and later LWB (about 90% of those sold, as far as I can see) - plus a prototype before that (can't be more than a handful of those);
Ranger: mk.1 with small front wheelarch & decals to match vs later ones with longer arches;
Clodbuster: Chevy badged version vs generic (the latter seem to be the rare ones);
Monster Beetle - white body mk.1 vs red mk.2;
Sand Scorcher & Rough Rider - distinct mk.1 and mk.2 variants of both;
Sand Rover & Holiday Buggy - read recently on TC about possibility of mk.1 / mk.2 of these & it sounded very plausible;
Pumpkin & Lunchbox - different steering parts (or is that just more recent ones?)
I'm also sure there were a couple of bodies released just as a set to fit on the Hornet chassis, but later got the Thundershot type chassis as a full kit release?
+ the Hotshot(s), obviously ...

So the "first 100" is more like 115 cars - or more?

Jonny, there are some early (mk.1) Avante parts as well, front uprights coming to my mind. The early ones were actually made of butter :dry:

Lars, they look absolutely stunning! I just love the wild look of the Hotshot!

PS. If you happen to have 1 -one- of the early resistors left from your builds, I'm interrested, because I still miss 1 for my mk.1 Hotshot :unsure:

Lovely work Lars :y:

In terms of MK 1 Mk 2 / 3 maybe we need a new thread so we don't mess this one up ?

Others include, early version of the FAV, before the Wild One, shorter front arms and different rear arms, diffrences to A sprue

The Brat earlier version has a diffrent chassis, deeper dish front wheels and earlier front bumper

The Hilux also has some minor diffrences to the leaf springs and hub design

The pumpkin ealier version also has the white endbell motor apparently

Thank you!
And thank you for the Windows net bag you sent me. It gave the finishing touches to both the Mk.1 and 2. The Mk.1 got it's windows nets, and the Mk.2 got the "ballon" over the motor. (a clear indication that it will never be run :laugh: )

Thanks!
I would love a tread on this, in order to pick your brains and add the information to the Model DataBase. :y: :y: :y:
