New Member embarking on a Porsche 936 rebuild 9 years 9 months ago #42089

After many years in the loft and after an argument with a bus (the bus ended up better off) I decided to rebuild my Rough Rider and get my son into it. Decided to get a Re Re body (still got the original in bits!) and get her running again. Couple of pics attached showing mission accomplished tho looking at otehrs I am thinking maybe to go back to the red/white box art that I used to have, my sons now got a Rising Fighter thanks to Santa so the RR can be allowed a repaint when time allows. Anyway my first Tamiya was a 936 that I just got from the loft and looking to get thsi back to its former glory, its now all stripped down (should have taken some pics) and noticed the gears have had it, the pinion is easy enough to source (or can use the smaller pinion) the problem is the diff so my question is has anyone tried to restore a nylon gear with a needle file and if so what wae the outcome?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

Welcome to TB! :)
Excellent looking Rough Rider, with that classical bend on the front bumper showing it's been used and appreciated!

Regarding the 936... That is a gorgeous model in my mind, one of the best early ones. I've restored a few Tamiya old-timers, and at a couple of occasions restored minor flaws on nylon diffs. I've used needle files to correct scratches and deformed teeth where needed. It's not that hard if the diff is in decent shape to begin with, but don't expect they will last very long if you drive it.

Looking forward to pictures of the restoration! :y:

The bumper snapped many many years ago and was repaired by my father (who worked for BA at the time) with aircraft grade ali, nothing stands a chance against it since, except Buses!

Thanks for the link Stingray. Saw this yesterday but was a bit steep in price considering my body not that bad except the rear part of the spoiler missing although could do with the clear bits and decals
