Countach shell refurb 9 years 8 months ago #42486

I'm back in to the collecting and one of my first goals now I have hoarded a ton of vintage parts is to restore a CS Countach.

I found a quite battered CS on eBay a while back and wanted to share my progress.

Original shell condition

Replica wing cast from original

The start of a repair to the front wheel arch as it had a crack.
I have fixed a few she'll with the technique over the years in those points that would be prone to break again.

I basically trim down a needle and then get a soldering iron and burry/melt it across the crack. This gives it some real structure back. This is only the start as I will now flattern the access plastic and use car filler to get the original profile back. It's always important to not fill over sharp edges as it will easily crack and trimming a V shape wedge along the line of you crack will help the filler stay in place and not develop a fracture line. I'm yet to trim this around the wheel arch.

More to come soon...

Casting your own rear wing! That's cool!
I would love to hear more on how you did it!

:y: That's a nice work base and you made a very nice job on the arch.

A small update...

I took out a little more of the cracked line up around the arch.

Filled on the front and rear and is now ready for primer. I have done these small parts before any of the other body restoration just to post on here, but hopefully this weekend i'll prime those areas up and post some finished pics.

Got a little distracted with another repair on another shell, same technique and if you're familiar with the Countach she'll, you'll know this repair is where a weakness is. This really is the best fix I've used.

Melt the trimmed pins in:

Trim the excess plastic.

Pleased at the new paint and air gun to add to my tools. Black is just a piano black, but I am really chuffed at the Rosso red i had made by paint code at the local paint shop. It is quite a pricey way to do it by the time you have some 2k laquer but I have the Tamiya and 1/12 Doyusha to do.

Now to find the paint code for the blue walter wolf Countach 05 :).

Also bought myself a new A1 cutting mat, its massive and only cost £13 delivered.
