Greetings Gentlemen,
I'm going to start restoring/upgrading my King Cab from 1991. Been in storage since mid 90's. I do have questions regarding parts: 1.) Stock wheels are good, so I just need to replace tires. What size will fit the wheels, without incurring any damage to tranny or diff? Are front and back different sizes? 2.) would like to upgrade shocks with aluminum. Looks like I need 103 and 77mm? 3.) what battery brand/ size am I looking for that fit the slot? 4.) the rig has radio receiver (75Mhz) (no transmitter) and ECS. Instead of finding a used 75mhz transmitter, should I just get new redio system? Would the existing ECS work with it? Regards, Will |

Wheels generally any 110 scale will work just measure and source.
I would honestly gut the esc and buy a new one that can handle lipo and brushless like a good entry level one from hobbywing or find a brushless kit. Any esc will work and as long as your reciever is a 2.4 ghz no need to update. Transmitter reciever combos can be found used for 40 to 20 bucks. Shocks should also be easy to source and she should be well improved with any of these choices. Make sure you get at least a 3 channel reciever. As far as batteries go lipos can be found in all sizes and generally weigh less than nicd. Buy a nice new balance charger and some decent 40 to 50 c lipos and your in for super long run times 45 minutes plus.usually measure your tray and try to source a hardshell lipo for offroading. Just Google and you'll find thousands. Gens ace and venom are good brands for lipos. Keep the rubber on the road! PM me with any Alfa Romeo bodies!!!

The only other advice I can give you, is to choice a not too powerfull brushless motor. The transmission has a poor réputation. And the ball diff couldn't support too much horses.
PS, your king cab sounds to be in an amazing condition. |

Thank you for the guidance. A lot more options available than 25 years ago. Plus, the fact that choosing one component dictates what others can be.
Ill start with tires, shocks and radio system. If I choose LiPos, will the existing motor and ESC work with it? |

Thanks for that advice. I suspected as such, but it helps to hear from experience. Yes, I mostly drove it around my backyard. Then, grown-up responsibilites got in the way. Now, Im at the age where I realize how much being a grown-up is highly overrated.

ESC will work with lipo but you need an extra lipo alarm for voltage.
Shocks original upgrade option are the HiCaps those just got rere for the Top Force. As mentioned the gearbox(diff) can't take much so better stick to basics. Get a quicrun 1060 ESC and a standard or silver can motor. Bearings and steel pinion are other options. Now tires is a different store, currently there isn't much that fits the original rims. I don't know if I'd be in that much of a hurry to "upgrade" it too much ... yellow CVA shocks are actually pretty competant &_very_ Tamiya, radio gear & ESC were good stuff BITD so unless you're running with lots of other cars &/or have interference issues, I'd stick with it as you've owned it since new ... Correct model transmitter shouldn't be too hard to find with everone else upgrading to 2.4GHz
Ps what's the bodywork like? |

Looking at that, I'm wondering if it'll be possible to "peel" the existing paint off the inside (even just the area that's supposed to be white) & repaint?
