Today I made the mistake of using this method on one of my wheels (50522 Castrol Celica wheels).

tamiyabase.com/...-rims.html

Even after following the instructions, in particular with regard to the 3 minutes, the rim was all deformed. If you use this method you can only have the rim 3 minutes in the boiling water. If you need to repeat the process again, you must allow the rim to cool completely because the accumulation of the heat causes the rim to deform.

Andyaus I did not read the comments and it seems that I was not the first to destroy a rim. You could put a warning in the article ... What heigth did you do this? Because water boils at different temperatures depending on height.

I never had matters with this method. The only precaution I use is that the rim doesn't touch the boarders.

I used a steam cooker in the bottom of the pan. It is impossible for the rim or the tire to have touched the pan ...

VCR sorry to see these rims deform, we did add an amendment to the article at the end of part 2 "Make sure that once the water is boiling that you bring it back to a simmer and don't let the wheels touch the bottom to avoid warping the plastic."

Of course I would always advise testing the items before just throwing them in the pot. I am at 200 meters above sea level, However even if you are at and higher altitude which will lower the boiling point of the water this just mean that boiling water at 500masl is colder than boiling water at 200masl.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

I followed the instructions very carefully which leads me to think that this method is not safe for all the type of plastic Tamiya uses.

I am at sea level, so here the water boils at 100ºc. If you were at a high altitude this might explain something. But 200m makes almost no difference at all.

I unglued my old egress tires today with very soft rims. I put them during 1 minute or max 2 in several times.
No matter. Only hot fingers and dead tires because they were too dry.

I will add a warning in the top of the article explaining that plastics react differently to heat. (or something like that)
