Original SuperShot 6 years 6 months ago #59050

Hey guys, I’m kenny. So I inherited an original SuperShot. It’s mostly complete, minus a few parts, it’s even got the ORM gold wheels and the box is in great shape. Plus there’s actually a lot of extra parts just none I need. Even has the original battery charger too. I used to be into rc cars years ago and had an RC10T truck, but this is far more advanced. So I am trying to figure out if it’s worth trying to complete the SuperShot? Or sell it and buy something new? The parts I need is the whole speed control arm and unit, batteries, tie rods. I’m not finding any speed control anything for sale and I’m assuming that if I do it’ll be some bucks. So I’m looking for input about how to proceed. If anyone is interested in it, let me know and maybe I’ll just let it go? Thanks in advance for anyone’s help.

I wouldn't go back to a mechanical speed control, ESCs (Electronic Speed Controls) are way cheaper than they used to be, give better control & longer run times, and much lower risk of runaways & fire, and you can do away with the speed control servo, resistors & 4x AA batteries. Looking at the Tamiya TBLE-02S would be a good starting point. A repacement MSC will probably cost more :(

Do you mean the tie rods for the steering? The Tamiya part #'s from the rerelease are 19805583 15310002 (or buy the whole re-re "C" bag), TBH I'd buy some M3 allthread as supply is problematic even for those re-re parts.

Battery - I'd look for NiMH 7.2v 6S stick packs with a capacity of 3000mAH or above, You will probably need a new charger too, chances are yours will be a slow wallwart or only suitable for NiCd packs. I would recommend an Imax B6 - they can be fiddly but will charge pretty much any sort of battery.

Stingray and Jonny Retro,
Thanks for the input, stingray I’ll post some pics today. I was able to find a the ESC you were talking about. But since it’s got the old original motor that came with it and another gold motor of some sort, should I just upgrade to a new motor also? See this is the dilemma I’m going to have. ESC, motor, battery, charger and steering tie rods and then who knows what else? Is it even worth putting this money into? I’m sure someone would make it a good home? I’m just wondering if it’s worth it? Or sell it for what I can get out of it and buy new?

I did a little shopping. For a new charger, batteries, ESC, motor, tie rods and the controller and receiver. I was over $200. I’m starting to think maybe this isn’t worth repairing at least to me, possibly someone else?

You don't need to change the motor to use an ESC, you can stick with the original motor as long as it still works. The "gold motor" you mentioned might possibly be a Technigold in which case you could just sell the motor and probably pay for most of everything else you need.
  • You can get a Hobbywing 1060 ESC for about $22.
  • You can get a starter NiMH battery for about $20.
  • You can get a Flysky radio with receiver for about $40.

If you're asking youself those sorts of questions then maybe it isn't for you - which is fine :)

eBay will have the biggest audience - take lots of pics & have it end when most people are watching (2100-2200 Sunday night in the UK, IDK if the US is the same), or set a realistic buy it now price.

A local Facebook group might be quicker & less hassle, but will probably net you a bit less.

Gumtree is a wretched hive of scum & villany, and not in a good way.

The supershot has been rereleased. I al sure that you can find spares. Repaire/ restore yours try it and see. If you aren't fan, sell it. The chance you have is that it is an original one.
