QD Monster Beetle customization questions 1 year 10 months ago #79706

Hi!

Hope I post this in the correct place!
First post on here! Long time enjoyer of RC cars but new to the deeper rc world.

Anyways, I took out my old beloved QD Monster Beetle the other day to show my son and to build race tracks in our yard etc.
But it feels a bit sluggish or slow. It is perfect for indoors but outdoors it doesn't have the power anymore.
Besides I also acquired a Lunch Box (a model i recognized from childhood as well) so we could race.
But the LB just fly by my trusty old QDMB..

What I need help with is how I should proceed to increase speed and torque in the MB. I learned it has a 280 motor aND it might be difficult to fit a bigger motor. Would a 380 fit? Any motor suggestions?
Also I do not know what ESC is and all the other typical parts of rc cars. It is a terminology new to me.
I am however good with a soldering iron and electronics in general.

And also, where can I buy these parts and how do i know which will fit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best/Philip

You should be able to find upgraded 280 motor in most hobby shops. Mind the stock pinion might be the press on type from factory.

Can never go wrong with Hobbywing 1060 esc.

Most likely your QD has a combi receiver and esc circuitboard so you have to buy a transmitter and receiver to run the 1060 esc,,

Does this mean the electronics in my QD is obsolete if I replace these parts?
Including the crystal.

Yeah and you have to replace the servo as well since it possible have more than the 3 wires that standard one uses, and wires is connected to the board as well.

I have not owned a QD myself so I can't confirm.
But I have converted my Nikkon Bison F10 from board to proper rc radio gear..
