Hi

I'm a big fan of AMF Period 'Big Twin' Harleys - 1969 to 1981 (I'm not including the small single cylinder 'Italian' Aermacchi motorcycles). In my opinion the the best looking bikes were produced from 1969 to 1977, the so-called Shovelhead engine machines. After 1977 the bikes started to follow some Japanese motorcycle trends - alloy wheels, plastic enclosed instruments etc. and IMHO started to loose the Classic Harley look. I've owned five AMF Period 'Big Twins' over the last 35 years and in spite of all the reported and perceived problems you read about concerning these machines, I have never had any real problems with them, they all ran very well and very reliably, if properly maintained and looked after.
