SRB spur gears 14 years 1 month ago #13440

Come on, someone must need some new spur gears for their SRB :(

In case widget thingy doesn't work: www.ebay.co.uk/...0782745045

I also have a pile of single 65T gears and final drive gears - all going cheap!

You'd be wise to edit the title to include "Vintage not re-re"
- I'd guess people don't want them cos they've already bought re-re to replace their worn vintage ones, BUT I know there are people out there that would be more than happy to replace their new re-re ones for the genuine article, given the chance!

Failing that, I'd give you a couple of quid for the bagfull, to maybe make a necklace!

Problem is I don't know that they are vintage, not re-re as I bought them as a job lot. Is there any way to tell?

Didn't we already ask that question? (Can't remember the answer...)

You might even be wise to hang onto a couple of complete sets, for the day when the re-re ones are worn out & rare, then it won't matter if they're vintage or not.
If nothing else, doing that will give me a chance to land a project SRB needing gears!

We did already ask that question and all we got were some very flippant replies :P

I am thinking if there is no way to tell them apart, why not list them as original (and maybe bump the price up a bit too  )?
On the other hand, will people really pay a premium for identical parts that are hidden inside a gearbox, just because they are old?

I have no idea where they came from - the guy selling them listed them as random gears, but I recognised them. Suspect they are NOS, maybe from a shop clearance. I only paid a tenner inc postage and will keep at least one set for my own SRB. If I can get my money back I'll be pretty happy.

Yes, why not list them as vintage & bump the price up, but do a hi-res closeup pic, that way an "expert" is bound to point out to you that they're not originals (IF they're not).
If they're old shop stock, I'd say it's very likely they're vintage, I mean, most shops nowadays only order spares in specially, rather than keeping hordes of spares, & remember, with the re-re's pricetag, it's not likely they might expect to sell loads of them & need a huge spares backup. All speculation, of course...

Yes, some purists are REALLY pure, to the point they will say something isn't original if it's not fitted with the original parts it was originally supplied with.
I recently sold a BROKEN vintage Hotshot chassis, which fetched nearly as much as a new re-re one that was listed at the same time.
If you have a wander around Ebay, you'll probably find rear paddle tyres listed as "For vintage Sand Scorcher" at double the money of re-re/Grasshopper ones too.
Another good example is the driver figure for the vintage Hilux - the bidding goes mad for originals, but only minor interest for repros. In fact, there was one recently I was watching, where someone saw it & got a bid in early, then removed their bid later (Obviously spotting that the seller had said that some of the bits were repro) & it only had a few bids to sub-10gbp (Originals can make 25-50)
