Tamiya TRF 415 "Rescue" 6 months 4 weeks ago #81970

Hi! It has been some time since my last post, life, am I right?

I have acquired a number of "projects" in the last year or so. I have lost a lot. Moved house at the worst possible time. RC has been my little pack of band aids.
Easter weekend, four days of answering to no one work related. Family. Quiet. And a simple restore(rescue) project. Rescue is more fitting with this one.
It came from a lady who lost her husband a few years back, it had been sitting in a box in a garage in a part of South Africa that has a habit of rusting everything.

I don't have the writing abilities of Blackbird at the best of times, less so with this post. I failed to take progress pictures, i was far too lost in the process.

So here are some before and after pictures. From dust and rust, to pretty and blue.

I dipped into my Ti and Blue screw stock. As well as all new bearings, all new CVD's, hinge pins, everything not alluminium has been replaced.

I plan on another 415 build. Box stock, as per the manual. I believe I have everything to do so in unused spares from another MS converter 415 chassis.

Very nice work.  I wonder how much of that original rough condition was due to actual use and how much was "lot rot" from sitting for a long period of time. It cleaned up pretty well, so there must not have been much serious damage.

I opted to leave out the image of the under side...... It has been well used, outdrive cups were munched, cvd's were sloppy(all four holes). The rust and dust was from sitting, it came from a city called Durban(my home city) in South Africa, right on the coast. Rust is unavoidable down there.

I should get to the next build soonish! I will follow up this post with the new build and the other runner i acquired.

Edit: Turns out I did add the under side image, oops!
