Mk.1 Hotshot 15 years 3 weeks ago #3553

Does anyone have knowledge of the Mk.1 Hotshot? I'm not talking about the original hotshot vs the rere, but the very first version of the original Hotshot, easiest spotted by the bumper.
I know the A-arms are different as well as the bumper, but were the steering knuckles and balls different as well?
I got a job lot of various old Hotshot parts, and it was a mix of mk.1 and mk.2 parts. In the lot there were a number of the red steering knuckles/turn buckles (i don't know the right term, but they are parts D1 and D9 in the original Hotshot manual), and two of them have thread holes for the balls that are of a smaller diameter than all those other I have seen from Hotshots, Supershots and Boomerangs etc. The holes are too small to fit either supershot balls, Boomerang balls or rere hotshot balls.

Can anyone confirm that the mk.1 Hotshot had different D1/D9 parts and 8mm ball connectors than those fitted on later models? Or could these parts be for a completely different model?

I'm writing this on my iPad, so I can't post images. I'll put up some pics later if anyone wants me to.

To my knowledge the only differences between the two vintage Hotshot versions, Mk.1 and Mk.2 are:
  • Front gearbox
  • Bumper
  • Bumper stay
  • Bumper plate
  • Front lower arms
  • Rear lower arms
I have never heard/read anywhere that the D1/D9 parts (front uprights?) were different.
Could they be Super Shot's?

Is there a thread in the left one already? Because they have to be tapped with the wheel axle first.
My only resource is the manual but it looks like a 58047 part to me... more than the right one.

All my other D1/D9 parts looks like the one to the right (vintage Hotshot, rere Hotshot, Supershot, even the Boomerang ones have the same sized thread hole and edge around).

There were two of these in the lot, one brand new and one used with threads. There is NO WAY these could be tapped with the wheel axle, the hole is much too small.

The one to the left looks very much like a SuperShot one.

From the SuperShot manual:
Notice the raised area for the servo links.

Thanks Lars, but you'll find the exact same pictures on page 7 of the original Hotshot manual. Also with the raised area for the servo links.

Did another check, and realized I have both a Mk.1 and a Mk.2 manual. The one scanned on TamiyaBase is the Mk.2 manual.
They do not show any differences on the wheel hubs, and they are shown the same as the SuperShot ones also.

Okay, that's interesting but strange. Original Hotshot has this extra line on the upright :

Like the left one your picture... the Supershot part is smooth.

Edit : I think were posting quite simultaneously.
The "line" I was talking about is the same "raised area" Lars was referring to.

Edou, you are correct. I missed the info because the left image on page 7 of the SuperShot manual shows the raised face (for servo links), but the image on the right on the same page does not. And the psrue drawing on page 22 also shows the flat face.

Can we then conclude that the Hotshot Mk1 and Mk2 both had the one to the left, and the one to the right is SuperShot?
