Hehe, no conclusion yet, I'm afraid.... I just checked my original Hotshot, my original Supershot and my rere Hotshot and none of them have the "raised" area. Another thing is, like I said earlier, the hole is much too small to fit the normal balls, it is impossible to thread it with the wheel axle, absolutely impossible, much too small.... So it has to have come with balls with smaller diameter scew. |

That's what I was thinking but Tom also said this : Always like a good quest for parts identification... Another edit : posting at the same time again like before... Btw - I've seen a few glitches in Tamiya's manuals by now. |

I just tried tapping it again, but there is just no way.....
Could others with original Hotshots and Supershots check theirs..... EDIT: I was wrong, both of these were threaded already, the new one was of the other type... So even a threaded one I can't tap with the wheel axle or fit a ball. |

I think that just might be the case.
Maybe they changed to producing the smooth specimen but kept the original manual. Or at least part of it because the earlier batch must have also had smaller ball ends then. Don't think there's another car before the 58047 that uses these red uprights either. Maybe it looks familiar to someone - but in black. Then it could be a red batch from another model. Temporarily used for the Hotshot... I could imagine the upright with the raised area breaking easier because of the sharp edges on it... Would really like to know if someone has an early Mk1 with these elusive knuckles. |

Hey! Look at that pic.... The balls definately have smaller diameter screws than the ones I consider "normal". And besides not having the raised part, it looks just like my odd ones (size of the hole and the edge around it)...... |

Here is a pic of a NIP Ball Connector Bag for the Supershot.
The ball definately have a thicker screw than the one in the picture above. These balls are interchangable with the rere Hotshot/Boomerang balls (although those are blackish and are hex type), and they are identical to the balls from my later (mk2) Hotshot and original Boomerang. These are not possible to fit on my "odd" uprights, as the screw is too thick. You can tell this is original vintage parts by the golden 5mm ball connectors (the rere's are blackish) and the wire spring holder for the Supershot MSC. I had to remove the ball itself from one of my "shots" (that's why you see some red plastic on the thread), as I just opened the bag and used the balls earlier today..... Tom |
