If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate

Today I removed the front end and steering servo from the questionably vintage Boomerang I picked up recently, and confirmed it's a re-re. The inside chassis pic speaks for itself. The front bumper also has a notched opening, as the re-re kits have. What I don't understand is the installation of old radio equipment and no bands on the dogbones (confirmed there are bands on the re-re kits). to be fair, the seller did mention being unsure if it was vintage or re-re. I went in rolling the dice, but as mentioned before, the price was less than a new re-re plus it has a Technigold in beautiful shape (confirmed it has the right number and pattern of tuning adjustments - not an imposter wearing a decal).
I have a new body I plan to do up box art anyway, so at this point I'm thinking swap out all the old radio equipment and embrace the fact it's a re-re and drive it like I stole it? What would TamiyaBase do? IG_tamiyaddiction
