Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all......
Well after the usual madness that is the holidays, I can say that (not by choice) I did almost nothing r/c related over the holidays. The only painting achieved was on our new pergola. And the closest thing to building a kit was replacing the bearings on my skateboard. My daughter and I did manage to get out to the local r/c track, where i took The Hornet for it's first run (and I haven't even finished the body details yet). |

I've been messing around with timelines for the Tamiya TRF series history. This chart shows all the different types of TRF chassis and when they were made. The very first touring chassis were variations on the TA-03, then later they got their own TRF4xx number series. You can see the sadly short history of the buggies.
The next thing I did was focus on the TRF4xx touring car line. You can see how most models lasted 3 or 4 years, but for some reason the TRF418 only made it a year. Does anyone know why? Was it a bad chassis? At first there was a link between the TRF line and the TA line. The TA-04 was basically a lite version of the TRF414, and the TA-05 was a lite version of the TRF415. After that they seem to have diverged though. I think the latest TA-08 PRO does have some things in common with the TRF420. Attachments: |

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate

Just did a little shakedown run of the Clod, Blackfoot and Lunch Box and got the steering all trimmed. The Clod felt fine with stock motors - I'm not interested in modding it into a heavy squirrely rocket ship. The Blackfoot did great with a black Sport Tuned motor, and The Lunchy was plenty punchy with a Torque Tuned motor. The slicks and cold ground made for an interesting session, but the wheels have no trouble lifting off. Obviously there's a combo of temp and unfinished bodies being run. I've been researching paint in cold weather outside, with heated paint and bodies and being very quick about it, but I may remain patient at least for the hard bodies. I washed and dried up The Hornet shell, so that may be my first attempt soon at winter painting since it's just a simple and single color - black. We'll see. Anyhoo, how about a group photo?

Niiiice! You've got a real bj? The clod should be awesome with modern aqs. My dad modified our by adding 2 aqs. But it was in late 80's.

Thanks! Not a BJ (they are diesel and often RHD), it's a 1971 FJ40 that I not-so-creatively call, Blue IG_tamiyaddiction
