Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC Question 5 years 9 months ago #64243

I have been thinking.
Beeping and fleshing green led is indeed loss of signal.
And testing with other esc with same result make me belive your transmitter is faulty, as 2 receivers going bad is not normal.

Can you test a transmitter and receiver of some friends to test this.
Usually when testing things like this, I swap out each item till it works.

Traxxas is one brand that have never worked for me, 5 transmitters did go bad, 4 of those the ald TQ-3 crystal radio.
I got a brand new Rustler as part of a giftcard back in 2014 hand hoped the new 2.4gHz stuff was better, no it wasen't.
Transmitter stopped working after 5 packs or so, before it went dead it was down to 5m range.
After this I will never buy Traxxas radio gear, they are absolut rubbish!

When the transmitter stop sending signals on ch 2, the receiver will still show voltage from the internal bec on the esc.
That's why you can still power up leds etc.

When this accour, have you tried to flick the transmitter off and then on again?
Plug the esc servo connector the ch1 (steering port), if you can control the esc by the steering wheel. the channel 2 is dead, either receiver or transmitter.
After two receivers, my bet is on faulty transmitter.

Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC Question 5 years 9 months ago #64244

Well. Indeed, beeping and flashing green means no signal. And that is exactly what happen as well with the TBLE-02S if you don't plug it on a RX and start it up (which is somthing you would do to set the motor mode, for exemple).

As well, just for the sake of confirming, when it happened, the first thing I did was to shut down the TX, the ESC, restart TX, and ESC. No result. Still beeping and flashing green on the ESC. If I put an new RX, bind it. It  works. Issue is not the TX.

I have another TX (my son's one) and tried as well: the dead RX doesn't work better. RX led doesn't even light up, no way to bind it. RX doesn't work at all. If it was working, RX led would light up and flash red, until there is a TX signal (or until it is bind if it is not the case yet).

By the way. Already tried to connect ESC on any of the other ports of the 2 RX who got the issue : no better.

In short, for those 2 deaad RX:
  • Power is provided by the ESC, is available on all the other ports from the RX
  • RX led doesn't light up
  • ESC indicate no signal whatever the RX port it is plugged on
  • No way to bind the RX, as the RX don't even start up
So. green led flashing and beeping means no signal, but it actually means : "the RX you've plugged me on is dead my friend"

RX death being established, the real question is now : what caused it?

Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC Question 5 years 9 months ago #64246

On various sites under the spec it reads "Note: When using servos with a current exceeding 1.5A, BEC output may be shut down." for the TBLE-02S.
So maybe the combo can't handle the servo for some reason?
And 1.5A on a servo is nothing these days.

A bit strange this one...

When bec shuts down it should not send power to the receiver.

I'm have been in the crawler cumunity for a 1.5 decade now, and bad sevos can give feedback back to the receiver which can burn the recceiver, even if the servo seems to operate normaly.
I would replace the servo along with the new receiver.

Which servo are you using?

Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC Question 5 years 9 months ago #64247

Servo I was using  is this one
12KG Servo Numérique Metal Gear Couple pour 1:10 RC

I have friends using it without issues. I got advised to change it already, and will replace it.

Agree with you, when BEC is overload, it should shut down. but then it should also restart after this. Here, I don't think it shut down. Direction on the buggy is free and there is no hard point. high current drawby servo  might be an hypothesis, but if the servo is consuming too much, why this is not happening right away wwhen I do use channel 1 the first time?

Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC Question 5 years 9 months ago #64252

That servo draw 1.8A and is no good with the esc.
I guess it do not draw that current all the time so things will only happen when it uses more than 1.5A.

I guess that esc is only made for std servos like Futaba 3003 etc with a silvercan motor or slightly hotter.
Beond that you need to find someting else.
Sidewinder 1060 is the most used esc these days and it can handle down to 12 turn motors and have 5A bec, plenty for modern high speed/high torque servos.

Unless you absolutly need to use a Tamiya esc, I recomend using someting else.

Which battery do you use?

Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC Question 5 years 9 months ago #64254

Battery is currently a NiMH as the Tamiya ESC doesn't support Lipo (Low battery voltage cut off is for LiFe).

That servo draw 1.8A and is no good with the esc.

Could you please route me where you can find/calculate this information?

Thanks

Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC Question 5 years 9 months ago #64259

I don't see any information about the current draw of the servo from the specifications there.

Brand: SPT
Product: Digital servo SPT4412LV 12KG
Dead band: 4μs
Neutral position: 1500μs / 330hz
Motor: Core Motor
Remote control angle: 90-120 ° ± 2 °
Voltage Range: 4.8V-6.0V
Operating speed (4.8V): 0.11 '/ 60 °
Operating Speed (6.0V): 0.09 '' / 60 °
Stall torque (4.8V): 10 kg.cm
Stall torque (6.0V): 12 kg.cm
Dimensions: 41X20.3X28mm
Weight: about 46g
Connector wire length: JR 260 mm
Bearing: 2BB
Application: RC airplane, 1:10 car, boat, etc.

By the way, it is very difficult looking at servo specifications to get the information. So if you have a formula to calculate this, just provide it, it will help.

Thanks

Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC Question 5 years 9 months ago #64260

Right under that spec sheet, there is another spec sheet highlighted with blue letters and says: Detailed Parameters

It says among other things Blocking current 1.8A.

No I don't know such calculator and have never used one myself, because most of the radiogear do go together well.
But sometimes things are just not working out.

It's also possible that you battery can not deliver the current needed.
Some systems just don't go well together with nimh and can have stange behavior.
Your esc will take lipo fine, just make sure to use a lipo alarm, I have used that several times running the old TEU-101BK esc.
Fully charged a 7.2v nimh has actually more voltage than a lipo. A 7.4v fully charged 2s lipo have 8.4v.

There was a chap on one of the fb groups last summer that all sort of problems regarding using a good nimh battery.
All problems vanished as soon as he swapped over to lipo.

Myself I can't remember the last time I used a nimh batteri as I swapped over to lipo around 10 years ago.
