I love the Wrangler.  Easy to know if it is a rere body or a first gen.
if under the footboards there is nothing, it's a first gen.  If there are 2 posts for chrome parts like the mu or the pajero, it's a rere.

Oh, it's definitely a re-release :)

I’ve got the body and wheels, I just need the chassis 😂

Great body shell.

The last thing I need at the moment is another project, but this unfinished project caught my eye at a weak moment - I liked the blue/grey colour, who doesn't love a Scorcher body, and there's plenty of evidence of me putting an inappropriate top on a CC-01 chassis

The colour turned out to be a colour that looks grey when I try to photograph it, but looks almost purple or green in lower light, depending on the angle. How anyone managed to make it look blue is beyond me…It’s been well filled and well painted, and what details have been done have been done well, but so much else is not up to par – let’s be charitable and call it just call it “test fitted” rather than “half assed” ;)

Note in particular the amount of hot melt glue holding the front turn signals in, and the amount holding the back of the (unsanded, unfilled and badly painted) 3D printed interior in, with was always going to be weaker than the pull on required to separate the Velcro body “mounts”.

Here you can see just how much of the chassis had to be trimmed to get it under a Scorcher shell – and all the metal upgrades :L

Ignoring the cut down wheelarches of the re-release Scorcher body, the other big problem is the mirrors. In just handling the body, this one has broken off at the usual place – I think it would have been so much better for Tamiya to go without mirrors at all rather than have the ghastly triangular base, oversize hole in the A-pillar & very obvious breakages. They could have at least made them optional, like the rear light clear lenses, maybe just a dimple on the inside & a “drill ‘n’ mm hole here to fit mirrors” note.

I don’t think there’s a post break repair you can do (other than gluing them, which is never anywhere near as strong as they are to start…

I’d thought I had a load of spare mirror parts, but it turns out I’ve only got one (and that already feels suspect) – so I thought about pre-emptive fixes. The one I went with – and TBH I don’t think it’s the correct method having completed it – was to saw off the mirror as close the base as possible, face the base & drill a 1.6mm hole to tap it for an M2 screw, turn off as much as possible of that ugly triangle, and bridge the two sides with a length of spring from an assortment box.
Orange plastic means the mirrors came from the re-release Blitzer Beetle, probably.

Paint is from a uni POSCA medium line pen in “silver” from the Mitsubishi Pencil Co. Ltd (no relation - en.wikipedia.or...i/Uni-ball). No idea hwo long it’s been in my drawer unused, but it’s long since been surpassed by Molotow Chrome for example. It’s fine if you want a grainy aluminium finish though.

This “fix” does make the re-re mirror a bit more likely to survive a minor touch, but they now stick out further from the body so I don’t know if they’re any less vulnerable overall. I think I’d just fill the holes & forego the mirrors on any car likely to be run.

Fitted some used wheels & tyres from the spares box – the wheel position (especially on the rear) and size didn’t cause as many issues ad I’d expect, you probably could run it without too much rubbing.

However, the chassis has been cut back so much both front and rear that there’s no option of fitting a bumper at the front, or filling that huge void at the back.

I’m not complaining, it was clearly sold as a failed (or at best incomplete) project. At least two previous owners had failed to be inspired to finish it properly (the seller had only had it a week before putting it back on eBay) – and I now make three.

Sometime a project just doesn’t work out, I think the best thing here would be to get a new chassis tub, C and E parts sprues while they’re still available, rebuild the chassis & keep it for a future project. I already have more SRB type bodies than I do SRB chassis, so as this body and interior aren’t really doing anything for me I will move them on at some point.

New tub & one of the parts sprues from Tony#s Tamiya Parts (TTP) and the other came from MakeItBuildIt.

Lots of sand hidden away in nooks and crannies, between that & the opaque grease on the gears I had to do soe cleaning as I went. Had to hid up the spare box for a number of fasteners, but ended up with a couple of m3 locknutes left over.

I actually like that grey color.
Too bad the hotglue work. Fine thing with hotglue is that is possible to remove if needed. But it can be a lot of work. My Falcon project is a fine example of that. There was a LOT of hotglue on that thing.

What is the plans for the CC01 chassis now you got a new tub?

This sand buggy was funny. And the body looks fine. I like the cockpit . And the cc01 is always nice.

I have some ideas for more CC-01 based vehicles, it probably makes sense to use this chassis for one of those rather than a "new" kit when it comes to it - but before that I have seven (!) other projects that are in paint but need detail painting, final assembly and electrical work.

Also, according to this thread, I've done nothing with the dustcart project (other than cut a perfectly good cc-01 chassis in half) for over two years now
