Tamiya Fox owners worldwide, rejoice! Introducing... Motorslug's Foxy Rear End!

One day, I noticed a Tamiya Fox in the window of the local thrift shop. I could not resist it. I wanted to fix it up to keep my Team Associated RC10T3 company. I took a good look at it, and noticed both lower rear A arms were destroyed. Later at home, when I started to take it apart for further inspection, I noticed the upper rear A arms were split around the screw threads. The originals became the most easily damaged and hardest to find parts.

I figured it would be easy to find parts for this long discontinued (and not yet re-released) buggy on eBay. I was wrong. I signed up for tamiyabase.com and noticed many others, worldwide, had the same dilemma in the past few years. I read threads about people making their own replacement parts on CNC machines out of aluminum (at great expense, which in turn has to get carried on to the consumer), and even people making a pair by hand for a shelf queen (Jonny Retro). I decided that such dedication to fully restoring these charming buggies (and more importantly, keeping their runners going) had to be rewarded with a product reminiscent in appearance to the originals but STRONGER.

I am now very pleased to offer complete sets of upper and lower rear A arms for $25.00US, and I am shipping worldwide.

The mold was made from original parts I have modified, and all replicated parts are cast by me out of a liquid plastic with a shore hardness of 80D (that is HARD HAT STRONG). I reinforced them around the shocks. These parts allow you the option of using slightly longer machine screws to mount the shocks! By going from 20mm long to 25mm (or even 30mm), the longer machine screws will go all the way through the inner shock mount tabs, actually adding to their durability. My parts will ship pre-drilled for original mounting hardware (7/64 for shock holes, 1/8 for others). Any mold overfill will be left on and you have the option of finish sanding and/or polishing on your own, or just smooth out around the tabs, PUT THEM ON, AND GO!

Nice work - definitely going the extra mile there :y:

I know making parts in small volumes is never cheap, and I know that the cost of shipping from the States is high ... but I've got to tell you, even though I'm absolutely sure your margin on these will be tiny, I sucked air through my teeth when I saw what the cost would be to replace the homemade set on my shelfer & the slightly dodgy set on my runner :pinch:

I'll have to think a bit more about it, maybe if I'm feeling a bit more flush in the New Year. :)

In the mean time, how well does the material polish up?

Jonny - Glad I wowed you, doubt that is easy to do with your skills! The stuff sands and polishes well. The first set, which I mounted on my Fox for the pics, were sanded with 100 grit to give a 'Mad Max' feel. As far as the shipping goes, I am willing to go First Class International, but have in mind the rates are based on weight and distance, which could end up costing more. I know money is tight this time of year, believe me, just wanted to share the news by the end of the year!

That set was sold on eBay... less than 10 hours after it was listed. Time for a follow-up topic, it has been a while...

Still did not get those parts in the mail... anyhow, just a quick note, I have upgraded the shipping information, please read, thank you:

Shipping and handling:
USPS Small Priority Flat Rate Box, up to 6 sets carefully packed $7.00 (US ONLY)
Rest of the world - Please contact me for calculated First Class Package International pricing.
I do not think 23.95 for a Priority Mail International Small Flat Rate Box is fair to anyone.

I wonder if you could make pieces like this with a 3d plastic printer. I imagine start up costs would be high.
