... and is the ESC still ok?

The last brushless setup I installed was a Turnigy Trackstar 13.5T motor (because it was a great price from Hobbyking), running off a Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC (because it would do the job, and it was "free" as I already had it - not because it was necessarily a good choice, just a cheap one).
If I could remember what car I'd put it in I could give you a better report on how well it's going, but I can't remember  I do know nothing bad has happened so far ... I don't know about Turnigy ESCs, but If I was in the market for a combo right now I'd be seriously looking at something like www.ebay.co.uk/...1558644767

I have a EZRUN 13T/35A combo in a Bigwig, a 60A ESC would be better as the fan spends a lot of time at full speed (e.g. www.ebay.co.uk/...1624490680 ) and although I think it's equal to the speed of the Technigold motor the car would have had originally, I think you'd like a bit more speed ;)

You asked ealier about Lipo batteries ... First, the disadvantages - you need to use batteries with hard cases in RC cars, that often means issues with fit.

Failure (due to damage and/or improper charging) can be spectacular - very hot, meter long, self-fuelled jets of flame that last for several seconds and will set fire to your house/shed/car ... so you need a specialised charger, never leave them unattented during charging, and always use a good fireproof charging bag or closed metal box. I also store mine in a closed metal box.

Another problem is if the voltage drops too far the battery becomes useless - this means using an ESC that will shut off before that happens, or using an audible plug in alarm.

Now, the good thing is that provided you treat them with respect, Lipo (comparing 2S, 7.4v Lipo with 7.2v NiMH) gives a speed/power/acceleration boost equivalent to going up a cell on a NiMH battery (e.g. going to 8.4v from 7.2v) or going up a class in terms of motor (e.g. like replacing a 27T silvercan with a 23T motor).

I use these in my Vintage Tamiya runners :)

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

Do they work with msc and 540 silver can motors?

Hmmm.. Didn't know you could do that. Could you point in the right direction on how to clean it? I mean I can clean the dust that is reachable but how do I detach the rotor from the stator? Is it possible? Thanks stingray.

Thanks Jonny Retro. I didn't know that Lipo's are that dangerous. I currently have two Floureon 11.1V 5500mAh 3S Lipo's. I've enevr run them in the cars for more then 4-5 mins.. Just not worth killing the cars. But it is fun to watch them go. I keep them on grass. Fitting is a b*#ch but after what you've just told me, looks like I'm gonna keep them in a metal box from now on. I may have to invest in a fireproof bag for when I get the Lipo 2S's. As I recall, I'm pretty sure the frog from 83 has an MSC in a fireproof bag... I could be wrong. Anyway, you've got me worried :p

As for the motor you suggested. Looks awesome. Especially the 13.5T.. My question is this.. Will the motor can fit in the supershot. It looks like it may not. I'm not sure. What do you think? I don't know if I wanna run an 60A esc as I'm already having heating issues, lol. But yeh more speed would defs be an awesome option :)

Thanks for getting back to me

Good question stringray-63. How do they go with 540 andyaus?

Thanks :)

I ran it in my Boomerang last time so the same 4wd as the SS, Yes it got hot but didn't loose power. Of course I wouldn't do consecutive run's so it can cool, and as JR suggests low gearing is best :)

I never dismantle a bl motor but I am sûre that it will be possible. And you have nothing to loose. ;)

They're not dangerous, they just need a few sensible precautions taking.

By fireproof bag I mean something like www.ebay.co.uk/...1621866994 for charging in, the thing on the frog was what Tamiya called a "waterproof bag" BITD, that was a thick balloon you put your receiver in, or cut the side off to cover an MSC :pinch:

The Turnigy motor is definiitely 540 sized & will fit. Amperage in the context of ESCs mean how much they can potentially handle continously, not how much they actually deliver - one rated 60A means it will handle more current (with less heating issues) than one rated at 35A. The Turnigy ESC is (perhaps optimistically) rated at 80A, that doesn't mean it's faster.
