Another thing...When you are dealing with 40 year old plastic you have to be careful. And remember it's never going to be 100%.

I prefer to clear coat first then go back and paint details, I have seen some of the "silvers" run when over coated with clear even after being allowed to dry...

That's a really good point. Thanks.
I'm not used to using clear coat but i want to do this bruiser right because i think it's worth it. As i have mentioned before there are very few of these Original one's here in the UK. Also would you apply the decals first and then clear coat over them or add the decals after clear coat? Thank you guys.

About painting OUTSIDE? It's very risky. !But in early September the weather is perfect. Not too hot and not too cold. 68f. Not as many flies about to ruin you work.! A nice gentle breeze but only for about 15 minutes then i bring it indoors. It's a risk but i don't want my kitchen covered in Blue overspray. It's a bugger to get it off and it get's everywhere.! Also when painting outside you can see each layer going on and how it looks in the 'Real World'. If you get my meaning..!

Another thing with this model it was missing One number plate. Can't get these so i made one..! What do you think?
It's plasticard and is very slightly thicker. I might not use this. It was just a test really.!

Totally agree with Blakbird, CC after decals looks great. Then details by hand.
Make sure you clean finger oil off of decals from installation as this can cause the CC to bead up and start to roll off, not common but has happened... For me, I have discovered that the hotter the paint and body are, the better the gloss likes it. I have achieved decent results more frequently during a hot Summer day, even if it is humid, just takes longer to dry but much more enviable than cooler weather IMHO... Of coarse Poly is a different story..... Attachments: |
