Hey all. Apart from breaking the Drift Pig and painting the NSU (still no decals yet), it's been a long time since i've done anything R/C related. Lots of family related stuff going on the past 18mths which has basically taken up all my spare time.
I had planned to paint some bodies over summer. Problem is it gets really humid here, so you only get a few short windows in between storms. So something i'd been planning to do (that went to the bottom of the to-do list) was put together a temp/humidity monitor for the garage. Finally got it off the breadboard and soldered up, though it still needs to be put in a case. And we are now half-way through autumn. Woulda been quicker to buy one, but hey I'd rather make one. Also recently dropped some coin on a couple of second hand chassis that I've been looking for. Arrived today, so will do an updated on those soon. . Attachments:

Wow, I wouldn't even be spraying deodorant at 95% RH
(dry stick antiperspirant in case you're wondering).
I'm not saying it never hits 95% RH here, but it tends to be in a period of a couple of days following a colder snap - like 8-10c & 95% following c.0c and drier, so condensation is dripping off everything & it's obvious that spraying is out of the question. I've been trying to record weather and it's impact on my spraying activities, I'm into my third year of it but working out just what and how I need to record it is a problem. Different types of paint need different conditions, for instance I'm generally happy spraying primer is it's not to breezy, not raining, is above 10c and bleow 80% RH. Amount of sun isn't an issue, but I might spray PS on polycarbonate at the same RH but a lower temperature as long as the sun is out. Clearcoat need 25c+ , ideally 50% or better RH, and clear skies for a couple of days. So far all I've concluded is that the weather here is unsuitable for any type of outdoor spraying 80% of the time, and that breeze/wind is a bigger problem that I'd first realised. I've known for a long time that the weather forescasting in this part of the country is pretty inaccurate - in fact, if you looked out the window and guessed that the weather would be exactly the same in 24 hours time, you'd be correct more often than the forecast. It used to be that the forecast only went out to 3 days, then it crept up 10 days with "improved" computer modelling, now it's up to 14 days. I'd be better off reading the astrology column from the trashiest red-top tabloid. Point is, base any spray-related planning on a weather forecast for as little as 12 hours ahead and I lose another 5% of viable spraying days as "bad" days turns out to be a "good" one after all. I'd only consider moving to the the southwest or west of the country - better forecasting but more rain On average I spray anything less than once a week, so the cost of and space lost to anything that would genuinely improve my numbers just doesn't seem worth it. I'm only on only my second "weather station" , the first one was designed for the US so I had to disconnect the alarm speaker, twisters not being much of a problem here. My current one also measures air pressure and takes it into account for forecasting and shows an up/down trend, it just doesn't tell you what it is, but I have a brass barometer for that I got a newer one for my dad but inevitably have to do tech support on it, some of the way it displays things are completely boneheaded, as are some of the setup steps, like having to to put a city in (LONdon is the closest, despite being very different meteorologically), I get that it needs latitude and longditude for moon and sun rise/set but why not ask for them instead? It display hectoPascals instead of millibars is also a problem

Haha, yeh it's been raining a couple days and ambient temps still in the low 20's, so it's fairly high. Annoyingly, winter can actually be dryer than summer, but the temps are usually too low. I'm storing the delta changes as an accumulation, so can turn it on and come back a couple hours later to see what the total change is. I do have a barometer module i could add on. But we have a clear view to the south, which is where the prevailing weather comes from, so the good old "look out the window" is enough to see when a storm is coming.

Yesterday was sunny before 6pm and I ran the blitzer beetle after more than 4 years brocken. A friend made me a shocks tower some monthes ago from thingiverse wich we modified and the first run was beautifull. And with a silvercan it ran fine and enough speed for my daughters garden. The blitzer is back. I'm too happy.

After a couple of attempts to find my box of 3 speed spares, I found the box had been down graded to a smaller one. I must have gone through more parts than I thought on previous builds. Which proved to be accurate. So those are all the relevant spares to go on the chassis I got last week. So still quite a way to go. I have a set of wheels in the post as well as the gear change linkage. I think at this point I’ll give these parts a tear down and clean and then I think I’ll just keep my eye out for any cheap parts coming up. But other than that I think I’m putting the money pit in storage. I considered putting the Bruiser body on this as the “ cheaper “ option, but when you add up all the parts required that still comes in over £100 +. Attachments: |

Or a parma vintage lexan blazer body.
