So what are everyone’s thoughts on the new release on the way later this year from Tamiya ??
Interesting that it’s 1-9 scale a bit of a departure, but following the trend for larger scale rc cars.
I found it weird that it was Tamiya US who dropped this, I could see nothing on the Tamiya Inc website this morning. Those guys baffle me.
Sounds like it could be out December, anyone brave enough to hang on thinking it would be an ideal Xmas present or are we all going for the Ford Ranger 😂.

This one looks very interesting. I see what you mean by the 1/9 th scale callout. I would be very surprised if that was not the MB body so not sure how the scale changes except maybe a stretched out wheelbase.... May call for some further investigation... :)

As far as the F-150, plenty left here in the US as it doesn't appear to be flying off the shelves as they say but rather on the expensive side. The R91CP however (which I am in the middle of finishing up) is selling out and even pre selling out. Not sure how they can offer such an iconic and legendary kit for only $139 to my door.....

CORRECTION: I now notice the headlights so I guess maybe a larger body???

Looks like new mr. Tamiya is looking to appeal to a different demographic.. BBX.. Nextgen Fighter.. the EVOs.. now this one.. clearly not for me.. but that's ok.. I just ordered a Clod Buster..
They need to change to survive.. so I hope this will sell well..

I will definitely be picking one up.  To me it continues a long line of VW Tamiya heritage starting with the Sand Scorcher, Monster Beetle, Blitzer Beetle, M-chassis Beetle, Rally Beetle, Beetle Trail, and now this.  It also seems like it will perform well as an actual beach buggy.  I took my Monster Beetle to the beach and, while it performed well, sand got in everything and required a near teardown to clean.  I think this will fare better.

It's not a tamiya but a kyosho beetle body clone.... 🤮
except the tgx wich wasn't 1/10 nor 1/8 classic size, what is this strange size . During 90's we had a 1/9 rc wich doesn't work well. I don't remind the brand but nothing worked nice.

The Sand Scorcher and Monster Beetle have much larger bodies than the M or FF chassis Beetles even though they are all marketed as 1/10.  This thing has the same wheelbase as the BBX which makes me suspect the body is about the same size as the one on the Monster Beetle.  I think they are just being more honest about the scale by calling it 1/9 because the reall Beetle is so small.  Not sure why Tamiya would choose to do this though, because R/C scales tend to be more about what class the model fits into than representing an actual mathematical scale.

To me it feels like Tamiya have been looking at what people want, full roll cage, stinger exhaust and mock up engine, a couple of driver figures.
i agree with Flo that the body looks like it could have come from another company or even after market.
I’ve just been reading some pretty lively comments on the TTP Facebook page. Some people think it’s over priced. But Antony was pretty defensive of what Tamiya have produced, fair play to him.

Tamiya already worked with other brands like parma ( imo) with the group C nascar and street devil and with a tamtech.  They was a Peugeot 405 t16 rallye raid on a mchassis to.

Never liked the BBX, but this however is up my alley!
And finally the got rid of the nose cone eyes and moved the headlights to the wings as proper VW ones.
I suspect they have watched Ampro Engineering closely as that roll cage is VERY similar to the one he made for the Sand Scorcher!
And love the idea that it can be fitted with Sand Scorcher style arms or regular arms up front.

For those who did read UK magazine Street Machine in the 80s may remember the UVA project in gold.
That will be my livery for this if I get it.
Hardest bit will to find gold centerline lookalike wheels. Chrome revolver wheels is very similar in looks.

Tamiya said in the video this project was 2 years in the making so they have worked hard on this one.
And it's finally something different that is not a freak show (read Quirkhopper), or a boring buggy.
Battery style is not a problem on this as they said it will fit a stick pack. lipo and shorty packs. They said they have tested 8200mah batteries in these. My LHS carry 8000 CNHL 100C batteries that will fit the bill very nicely!

My old man was a VW dude, so I have herritaged a soft spot for old style VW's.

I seem to remember it being a Massive Disappointment the last time Tamiya teased something using that photo ... wasn't it a Lexan bodied modern Toyota pickup cynically cashing in on the Bruiser livery?

I was never a fan of the BBXs price tag, but this does look to have some genuinely new (for Tamiya) thinking - it could so easily have been a re-re Scorcher body with extra holes held on with a mess of body fittings. Not my bag, but I can appreciate it will appeal to a lot of people.

You know the saying "once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action"?  There was a time when I was beginning to get really paranoid about how any vintage Tamiya I spent a lot of money was immediately followed by a Tamiya re-release, and how any scratchbuild I attempted also got a new release, sometimes before I was even finished ... but this time, it's been a long time since TBs group effort Wide Eye build (tamiyabase.com/...-lost-baby).

At Knight Customs HQ however, I bet a few things got kicked around the workshop (knightcustoms.c...ersion-set) ...
