This is why I suspected the bends in the arms to be accidental : Pic is even taken after some reconstruction... On the brighter side (notice the play on words) : the light unit has arrived! So that's a good excuse to fiddle around and customize the parts. Turning on the light by remote is not as easy as I thought of course - just found out I also need a switch module. But I can still install them and drive with the lights on... Any tips or tricks to mount them properly are very welcome. It'll have to be a custom job in any case : |

The picture above is what was the representation of the blue LEDs on the website...
But in reality they are darkened. More suitable for a military vehicle : Good thing I also ordered a set of white. These should match the car well : Now I'll have to brainstorm on how to mount them in the front light units... |

I have a switch like that in "The World's Least Capable Scaler" (Frog chassis, Pajero wheelie wheels, locked diff, 55T motor, Bowler Wildcat shell with everything but the kitchen sink bolted or tied on, winch is also operated from the transmitter) ...
... it's in there somewhere ... ... in the end it was easier to find my spare one ... I run the switch off the "landing gear" switch on my Planet T5 TX, it works fine but as the switch on the TX isn't a simple on off (more of landing gear up, to down over 7-10 seconds), and the Turnigy unit switches when the "servo" on that channel is at 50% (I think), response is very slow, so there's no chance of flashing the lights It's also worth noting that whatever you're running off such an electronic switch, it _has_ to be powered by the same battery that powers the reciever - i.e. usually the main drive battery - I was banging my head against the wall trying to make a siren work with a separate 9v cell ... To make it work, one red wire taps into the main drive battery to esc +ve wire, the other red wire goes to the +ve side of your lights or whatever (via resistors, if necessary), then the -ve side of the lights taps into the main drive battery to esc -ve wire. |

That off roader looks brilliant! Great remote stuff on it.
Think I'm going to install an on/off switch on the chassis - where it used to go with MSC - for now. There is a small switch on the wiring of the LEDs but that doesn't seem to be working. So I'll take that out and put the Tamiya switch in between the lights and the receiver... There's a German website (Conrad) with a bunch of cheap and very useful electronics that also sells in the Netherlands. I've gotten a few links to cool switch modules, some with memory settings. Bit I'll go for that later. After I figure out what other use I might have for such an item in the future so I can pick the right one. Gotta try to think ahead in RC! And a pair of headlights is awesome but compared to the total weight it's quite an increase... Think I'm sensing a scaler project coming up though. Btw - the 3rd channel on the Rx is a direct servo switch so I'll have the privilege of not having the delay. |

I'm pretty sure this is how these "Angel Eyes" LEDs are supposed to work - halo of light as a "sidelight" or "daytime running light", LED in the centre and/or halo as full power - hence the three wires to the unit ... Still, if you're planning to see where you're going with onboard lighting, you need a bit more oomph - how about eight 10mm 15,000mCd LEDs? |

Didn't have much luck finding a good spot to run the car this weekend.
I was planning to drive around on the big tarmac dock near the harbour but that was closed off. Now autumn has started here (looking at the weather) and the best thing would be an indoor carpet track... Keep on building then - straight arms (without bends) for the shelf car (next project) and some titanium fun : |
