Quite a few purchases while the site was down.
First one was this: Seller really didn't want to post it (why offer postage if you're going to whine about it?), but even after raping me on the postage charge it is still not a bad deal for what looks like a brand-new Acoms Techniplus set (not tested but servos are still in bags). I remained polite with the seller and resisted pointing out that if I had not bid, it would have sold for 99p Second lot (this is not chronological, just as I remember them) came with a bunch of other stuff from the same seller that I would not have bought in its own. Some random gears: Couple of SRB gears and (I think) a Holiday Buggy final gear (not in great condition though). Don't know what the other gears are - can anyone identify or interested in them? Third, a random bunch of tyres (I like tyres The wheels are obviously Mardave Apache (1.7 inch dia, like Rough Rider) and I hoped the tyres on them would be Mardave too. However I did think they looked a little large in the photo and they turn out to be marked "Goodyear" on the sidewalls. Maybe Kyosho or something? Not decided what to do with them yet. I hoped the other tyres would be Mardave Meteor (to fit to my Meteor) but they are not. In fact they are a pair of Tamiya "Super Gripper" oval block rears and some narrower knobblies from Dynamite racing of the same diameter, both pairs in pretty good nick. Interestingly they do fit the Meteor wheels quite well, so that's where I'll use them. I was under the impression that the newer Meteor wheels were 2.2 inch, but they are not. Not measured them yet, but I am guessing they might be 2 inch. I also picked up a Tamiya TEU101BK ESC for £7 posted and some manky SRB gear and motor covers. Also a(nother) pair of SRB gearbox halves, SRB pinions and driveshafts. And I've got a lexan Mardave Meteor bodyshell on the way. I think a rare type with moulded side pods to cover the battery ends, rather than the cut-outs on the normal shell. Phew! |

Sure. It's a bit worn, but probably useable.

These came with another Hotshot 2 i just bagged of the bay at first i thought meh just a set of gold plated Supershot wheels but turns out these are stamped 1985 Tamiya 58047. Wich brings me to the conclusion that they are orignal optional Gold Wheels for the orignal Hotshot and the plating is mint still too so they are back on the bay now for 50 quid i know maybe a bit steep but im not letting these go for pennies |

I'm pretty sure gold wheels were "bonus parts" with the first batch of Hotshot re-res, or were made available as a limited release around the same time? The date stamp doesn't necessarily mean anything, lots of re-re parts use the original moulds completely unchanged. Doesn't the Supershot/Hot Shot/Super Hot Shot (whatever they called it) come with gold wheels? That doesn't mean yours aren't vintage originals, but without being in a baggy with a faded white & orange card top with a short part number & an implausibly low (by modern standards) price on yen, I'd sooner believe they are much more recent. The nuts will also be a clue - period ones would be bright zinc plate with a medium blue insert, probably without a flange. Dark brown/black finish are definitely recent AFAIK. 50 notes made me suck air through my teeth (especially if they are modern), but then a lot of Tamiya prices do that anythway |

The slotted spur & large/small bevels are a diff for a vintage F2, CS or one of the other old 1/12th Tamiya cars & good ones are as rare as rocking horse doo-doo. I'll bet The HP Freak would be interested if they're any good, or maybe someone doing a Countach resto
