My first radio set was a Mk.III Acoms in 27mhz blue, the pre-BEC one with the flying leads on the RX and the unfortunate rudeness on the box ... later mk.s are objectively better, at least to a point, but you never forget your first & the mk.iii is way more likely to be working correctly now than a mk.i or II, although a lot of the time there's a quick/easy fix for a "dead" TX.

Futaba better than Acoms? On balance, probably yes, but some of the stuff from around the same time as the Acoms mk.I and II look and feel pretty cheap, and can be pretty scabby by now. Futaba also still exist, whereas Acoms heritage was killed off under new ownership.

Plus, let's face it, everyone's favourite "vintage" mass market 2-ch TX is going to be the Futaba New Attack/New Attack R which somehow makes the anachronistic chrome look good, unlike the Acoms mk.IV ;)

BOTH my systems that i have pictured work absolutely fine with the 3 speeds.

They work in exactly the same way.

Just one is way more reliable than the other...Same Futaba servos throughout the build.

...

Rare as hens teeth.!

I've been seeing that expression a lot recently in RC listings on ebay ... but every chicken (hen or rooster) has a temporary tooth to help them get out of the shell.... it's only temporary for a few days, but 120,000,000+ chickens in the UK divided by two for gender, divided by what ever you decide is the average lifespan of a chicken is (5-8 naturally, 10-15 in small scale captivity, 20+ for some pets, or much, much less for commercial or eating purposes), factor that against how long the egg tooth lasts, that's an awful lot of supposedly rare parts ;)

Speaking of hen's teeth, some Willy tyres from Ebay :)

I'm hoping two will glue up well enough to replace the two more worn tyres in my spare set, hopefully giving me a decent used set of wheels & tyres, and one set of just tyres that are too rare to throw, but not good enough to do anything with

Awful.. but they are gone.

I'm pretty good at restoring Tamiya rubber tyres...No one on the Globe can restore those though.

Do keep them though.

Had a chance to look at the manual from the 2025 release of the Honda City Turbo – can’t say I’ve pored over it in forensic detail, but a few things stand out:

The date shown is still 2015, but the front outside cover page, along with page 11 and the rear cover outer page have a revision number on the bottom, 11053968-001 for 2025 instead of 11053968 for 2015 manuals

Page 11 has been amended with the correct placement of the front top outer step screws

The back cover has multiple layout chances and the large “Honda CITY TURBO” text is gone from the top of the page.

Step 20 still shows the lower front body clip going in the third hole from the bottom, whereas lifting it a couple of notches really helps with the air dam scraping the ground and front tyres rubbing the arches.

435 sets are ok.

But it's the ACOMS 427 and the receiver that count. Acoms Receiver has to be 427 as well..

Rare as hens teeth.!

I wouldn't say that, I had the choice of 3 concurrently when I picked this one up, I seem to have misplaced the TX for the moment :p

I'm sorry.

I'm only interested in Vintage stuff.

You mention anything above 1999 is not for me.

Thank you though..
