Someone on Scalebuilders said if an rc person puts that much effort into a static trailer build, it might be worth checking something like DAS87 out.
They make rc parts for 1:87 builds.

More I got thinking of it the more I want to see if I can make a 1:87 rc conversion of the Peterbilt.
I have been intrigued by 1:87 rc builds before and I've been watching videos on Youtube..

Not long ago I was gifted a 1:87 Tyco slot car, and it's here it begins.
After a bit research it is Magnum 440 x2 chassis I belive.
In my parts bin I do have a pair of micro esc laying around.

I have now pulled my Peterbilt apart. It was harder than I thought.Box wrench for size comparision...

It will be dang hard to fit rc stuff to this..

Some of my pics is a bit blury today..

Plopped the body on. JST connector shows how small this is..

Tyco Magnum 440 X2 (1:87 scale slot car) was also pulled in bits..

These is the bits I'm interested in..
Bore of that pinion is 1.5mm

I hoped one of those N20 motors (motor for rc winches) would fit the bill.
Turns out the output axle is 3mm, motor axle itself is 1mm. So either too big or too small..

Those Tyco tires is just a tad smaller than the truck tires.
Maybe a future Hot Rod project with those??

If I'm going to use that ring gear and pinion from the Tyco, the frame needs to be clearanced or raised.

Been ransacking my bits to see if I have anything that could work...

Not a chance!

This DSM2 receiver is the smallest I got...

It might be possible with the wall between the cab and sleeper removed, but battery will be as big as the sleeper itself with no space to put it elsewhere...

This receiver is 30x18x8.8mm without the pins...

I have this...

Nope! Too big and no way to connect a servo as this use coil to steer..

Next is this Micro Tamiya Hornet ripoff (I do plan to make it a micro Hornet replica)..

Nope, still too big! And coil power steering here as well..

Then I have this Kyosho Mini-Z....

At 34.5x20mm it's too big as well..

I have ordered this servo for this project... 20mm long, 16mm tall without splines and 6.2mm thick. It.s really 13.5mm long when the mounting ears is chopped off... Tallness is the issue for this build..

Problem is I don't want to order a radio gear and only modern transmitter I have is Tactic TTX300 which is SLT. Not found anything that uses SLT in micro form yet.
I also have a old LRP FHSS transmitter. I tried to use a Futaba receiver to that, and it did not work..

I hope I can stay under 80 dollars in total, 19 spent so far on two servos.
I do have micro esc in my parts bin. I can also use a old servo circuit board as esc..

Also on my research I found out that 030 and 050 motors use 1.5mm axle shaft.
It happens that Axial SCX24 uses a 88t 030 motor stock, so that will work perfectly with the slot car pinion.
My LHS also has this in stock.

Difference between 030 and 050 motor is that the 050 motor is longer.

So now motor and servo is sorted, as is micro esc.
I need a micro receiver and a battery, both will be hard due lack of space and this is budget build as all of my builds really lol
1:87 stuff is not cheap and I don't want to go there if I can avoid.

My research also seems to come to that conclution that I need 150mAh 1s battery or less.
The sleeper is less than 25x20mm by 16 wide so I need battery that takes less space than that, or mount it along sleeper and cab if the wall is removed.

Also Radiolink has a mini 4ch receiver that is 25x13x12mm that also could be mounted along inside the sleeper and cab.

I just hopes the servo will fit under the hood...

This is so cool, Richard!

That's the plan! Crazy as it sounds lol

Just ordered a tiny tiny battery of 60mAh (1s) which meassure 15.4x13.35x3.9mm.
That will fit the backwall of the drivercab if that is correct.
Sleeper will then hold receiver and micro esc.
Servo under hood..

1/20 already needs a lot of work to RC it, but 1/87 is huge task.
for Flysky AFHDS2A protocol I found a micro receiver (works for mini Z), and it should be fine once the pins are removed and the servo wires soldered directly to the rx board, but I get this would be additional costs...
I buy kits to built and ru(i)n them :-)

That's very handy to know as you saw I do have a Mini-Z.
I did find one receiver with that protocol with dim 25x11mm. And with angled servo pins, very handy.
My Mini-Z transmitter is a 22 year old Perfex KT-18 which used AFS.
Found this, cost double the cost of the one I mention below..
sea.banggood.co...62274.html

Earlier today I did buy a receiver, a Radiolink R4FGM with dim 25x13mm after a lot of research.
That will fit on rear wall of the sleeper, just.
My criteria was it must work on 1s. And tthe R4FGM has 4 versions. I bought V.2.1 which work on 3-6v.
It was also cheap.
The Radiolink RC4GS transmitter is actually one of those I been keen on as I don't own a modern transmitter with 4 channels.

So far I've bought:
Servos
Battery
Receiver.

I now only missing motor to actully have all the rc bits for this project. Micro esc I already have in my parts bin.
