Going oldschool, my vintage CAD 13 years 7 months ago #19366

The WB is back and has the afternoon for himself (misses is of to work), so I will dig out the several sets of SD and J whatever parts (3 TFs waiting for rebuild  ) and get the caliper out for some crossmeasuring. But I think Eddrick is on the spot concerning tolerances. :y:
I will try to make some pics where which parts are attached or inserted and how the setups look like.

edit: added some pics

here an overview for 'small' parts needed to do a DF FRP or Carbon conversion. (left out the J parts)

Full Alloy :woohoo: , I used some more SD6 to create improvised saddle pack mounts.

The support team

A little shuffle and throw in the servo mounts too

Bits and pieces that will complete the lot.

Hard to get are the wing mounts (they come in the SD set), front body mount, damper mount spacers and rubber rings.

DIY Saddle pack conversion

And some measurements

Awesome! That's made it somewhat clearer!

Ok, it seems to me that a "basic" kit & a "Full alloy" kit might be a simpler way to go about this, rather than trying to decide what bits to include & what not, ie do kits of bits for a "basic" conversion & a "Full conversion" that will cover any/all cars that can use them. What do you reckon?

If you think it would work, I'll be needing dimensions for all the bits that are needed (Except SD1, SD2, SD3, SD5, SD6, BB6, J12, I've got that info now), & do lists of what would be needed for:
1) the "Basic" (Minimum required for assembly of any car)
2) the "Full alloy" (All bits required for full conversion of any car)

been doing some librecad (took some getting used to the prog) basic is there.

left to right, BM5, BM6, BM1, J12, BM3, BM2 and SPmount
BM4 will be added and Spmount still under construction

basic would be, BM1, BM5 and BM6. with that, one can fit the lower and upper deck.
to make it look better, you could add the alloy J12 (extended basic)

to build an TF one would need to add BM2 and BM3 for the wing and body mounts.
the BC6 parts are available from the lunchbox etc. so for a standard battery setup those could be bought.
Now for the finishing touch we should add the TF evo BM4 damper mounts

Basic BM1+5+6
Basic ext. BM1+5+6 + J12
TF kit, BM1+2+3+4+5+6
TF ext. BM1+2+3+4+5+6 + J12
and of course
TF racer spec. BM1+2+3+4+5+6 + J12 + saddle pack mounts :cheer:

Contrary to what other people might say, you're a star Waterbok!
Interesting that we've now got BM prefixes instead of SD prefixes, what's that about? I'm assuming they're the same thing just with different numbers?!

BM are the TF evo parts, is much cooler than 'ordinary' TF SD parts ;)

will have a go at the dimensioning bit tonight.

edit : Now we are getting some where B)

have to double check on a few dimensions.

Awesome work. :y:

Edit - besides being a hop up (or replacement) for the buggies, the Manta Ray FRP conversion kit is also listed for the TA01s.
So the basic custom mount bag could also (officially) be used on any TA01 (and even some TA01-TA02 hybrids I think).
I'll put a list together.

What we are working on at the moment is DF01 conversion, making a mount set so one can build a TF style buggy with Jparts and decks (Tamiya or Fibre-lyte).

For the TA02 & FWD there is also this conversion kit

here is more

Complicated enough as it is...

Awesome indeed!

Top of BM1 has to be 4.95-4.98 to hand-fit bearings (Already know that), but does the top of J12 also have to fit into something, (Is it actually 6.00 diameter x 5.00 tall or does it need tolerancing?)

Same question for BM4 - I take it the smaller diameter has to fit through a damper eye, so would the 4.2 diameter be ok at 4.20 or does it need to be (eg) 4.15-4.18?

I know I've already asked the question, but I'll ask it again to make sure - do the M3 tappings have to be continuous all the way through BM6, BM6 & J12, or can they be tapped from both ends?
ie, do they have long screws that pass all the way through, or do they have short screws in both ends? I just ask as a standard M3 tap would be too short to go all the way through, so if they do, I need to buy a "long series" M3 tap to do them
