Dude, those are awesome. And huge btw - the same size (2.8") that's on my Manta Ray.
It says 1/10 but they're really more like 1/8... and a big wing will also fit very well with them. |

I know you really don't believe in gearing, but with those wheels you are going to have a real problem - it'll be massively overgeared, so although theoretically it'll give a much higher top speed, I don't think the motor will ever there. Hopefully the ESC will just "thermal" - i.e. cut out - before the magic smoke escapes, the heat from the motor melts the gearbox or your wiring melts though
The 105mm diameter - close to the 115mm of the Pumpkin/Lunchbox does suggest an obvious solution though - the 10 tooth, 0.8 mod, 17mm long pinion for either of those cars & part # 2 off the "D" sprue ... that 10mm tyre OD difference will mean the gearing is slightly low for a 27T silvercan, but I wiuld think nearly perfect to take advantage of the higher revs of that 23T you're waiting for. I did have a look though my spares piles, but I don't have the pinion or the D" part - sorry Big wing ... I can see that ... but I would have thought wheelie bars & a paracute pack might be more appropriate |

Lunchkin "D2" is the spacer that moves a 540 size motor into the right position so a 10 tooth pinion will mesh with the spur gear ... I'd forgotten about the 480 motor - not something I've had any experience of, I guess the revs/torque profile of that are something like 2/3rds of the way between a 380 & a 540 ... I'm really not sure how it'll react to bigger wheels ... just give the motor the "3 second" test after a couple of minutes - if you can comfortably hold your finger on the motor for 3 seconds, it's not too hot |

ok thanks for the advice. my hopper has 85mm diameter wheels and with the 480 motor in it ran all day with no problems, but that has the mitroniks ESC not the tamiya one you sent me.
i will just have to cautiously try it out for a bit and see what happens |

I'm curious what it would look like with the monster wheels on the back & the weeny ones on the front
