Well done on getting one . ] I missed out on the pre-order as I wasn't sure of the value for money , and that newer chassis set up , so I was slow . Hope that rumour about another run is true . |

Hey Mirrorman, that seems very odd to me as here in the US almost everything you buy these days has the Hobbywing esc included.
Wonder why you folks don't get them. Is the decal on the box but its missing or is there no indication it should be in there? |

Hi Al,
I just picked up a rere of the RC10DS kit and its got really nice wheels and tires and coincidentally its a 959 so they MIGHT look right at home.... I believe they are available separately also..

Most all of the Tamiya RC kits I purchased before Covid had an ESC of some sort included. For many years now though we have had no ESC included with Tamiya RC kits. For example here is the way the Mercedes I purchased a few years ago was listed on the sellers site - Tamiya TT-01E 1997 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR RC Touring Car Electric 4WD 1/10 Scale Kit (no ESC)When this current CAPRI kit arrived and I spotted the sticker on the lid I thought that the ESC wouldn't be there- but the ESC is in the kit , which was a surprise .

Here in Norway there is sometimes two options, version with esc, and version without esc.
I want to think the one without is a kit with esc that has been taken out. Yep seems the 1060 esc is the norm now.

In the majority of the case here in France, standard kits are sold with esc and motor. But you can have the kit cheaper if you negociate with the shop by removing the esc. I could do it during the 90's with msc and the motor.

Very similar in the UK - Tamiya RC kits always came with an MSC, right up until the TEU-101BK ESC took over, then it was the TBLE-02S, now it's the "THW-1060RTR" which is fine, apart from the undersized on/off swtich
My understanding is that kits are shipped from Japan (well, usually the Philippines now) with unsealed boxes, and it's the importer that puts in a speed control it that's the norm in their market, same with sealing it up in shrink wrap. In the UK, the speed control goes in, along with a "includes a electronic forward and reverse speed controller" label, which I'm sure could be put on straight but is always at an angle or in an awkward place just to show it was put on by a real human - a practice pioneered by RiKo BITD You can often get the kit 10 GBP if you opt for the ESC being removed, but TBH most of the time I'd leave it in as 10 GBP for an NIP ESC, even a cheap/basic one is still cheap. Even it you do opt for ESC removal, the label stays on the box. Kits I've bought from Germany have had an ESC, are sealed in shrinkwrap, and have had a huge sticker on the underside extolling the virtues of Carson branded radio gear & the like.
