I thought I'd already done the bulk of this & just had to put it back together, but the amount of work i still have to do is intimidating - TBH I've only been up two hours & I think I'd rather put it all back in a box & have a nap
- 3 damaged clear underguards & sheet to make a new one; - Homemade transfers; - Polished chassis bits; - Two MSCs (need to pick the least manky one & rewire it); - Spare chassis bits; - Body (roof needs fixing on); - "Best" chassis bits (IIRC these have been cleaned but not repaired/sanded/polished); - Lots of new, mostly stainless fasteners (glad I'd already bought those, as otherwise I would have had to do without - New XR311 re-re gearbox cover; - Tyres & wheels (all ready); - Body greeblies (jerrycans need sanding/priming/painting & so way of holding them on, plastic front guard needs repairing & painting, winch needs painting, outside rearview mirror needs duplicating, painting & mounts making); - XR311 bumper (clean up or make new one?) - LEDs (need wiring up); - templates & stuff (need filing); - Window decal templates & vinyl; Other things to do: - Find fuse for the MSC (I got rid of all my glass fuses a few years back thinking I'd never, ever have any use for one again - Find a motor; - fix suspension (the plasticard method I used on the 1st Cheetah is a bit too ugly, so I'll try this upgrade). |

Have made a tiny bit of progress on this ... I've cut the windows out:
Also repaired the missing bits on the front guard: I was shy one mirror so thought I'd have a go at making one ... Cut bits out of styrene sheet .. Sanded corners etc .... glued together ... Added the ribbing to the back: & the rear: ... |

Did quite a lot of work on a jerrycan holder before deciding I really didn't like it & that I really hadn't given any thought to bonding aluminium wire to styrene, so would try and do something a lot more like the correct setup ...
bent, cut & sanded styrene rod: all glued together with the cans & holders for the extra bits - slightly modified 1/12 dollshouse accesories, + homemade bungies... Assembled, but still needs painting & attaching: |

An ikkle bit more progress ....
I'd thrown the badly broken & badly painted rear bumper out thinking I wouldn't use it ... but changed my mind & had to build a new one Sprayed, along with a few other bits ... Brass bits polished with Autosol... Also realised the MSC I'd picked out for re-wiring was the 2-stage one off an XR311, but I did have the correct one too - note the nasty Lucar connectors I think I might be ready to start putting it back together again soon |

Well I didn't get very far on that ... failed on the first fastener of step one - fixing the front body clamp to the chassis. The manual claims they're 3mmx6mm screws... I know on the Cheetah & XR311, most of the fasteners described as "3mm" are in fact UNC4/40 threads, so that's what I'd bought. The threads on tiny brass bits turned out to be m2.5 The thing is, I had a load of m2.5, but I haven't now ... what on earth did I use them on? |

What make of silver paint did you use for the jerry cans and other bits? The finish looks like chrome. Super job on the detail as usual! Marius |

It's "Silver Hook" brand Chrome paint - it's pretty good for something that comes out of an aersol rather than an electroplating tank, but of course it does look better in the photos. Anyway, where have you been up to, Mr Throttle? Not seen you about much here recently ... |

Hmmm..."half throttle" financial year end and a few other work related time consumers. Winter in Cape Town is also not the best time of year for me to get stuck into projects. I do visit TB a couple of times a week to see what you and the other rc nuts are up to.
As for the paint, like you say considering it's from a rattle can the result is great (will check local availability). Marius |
