LEDs for the back end are too close together to use the nuts that came with the holders, and almost completely inaccessable - to me that means it's time to dust off the hot melt glue gun :D

Of course, then you have something _hot_ sitting on a thermo plastic, so to stop anything bowing with the heat, I held it under the tap until it had set enough to keep the LED holders in place ...

Then dunked it to cool off some more:

Front LEDs are held in by more conventional means

Wiring underneath has been tidied up with foil tape, the 2 red LEDs on the back & the 4 white ones on the rear I've wired into a 9v battery clip via a switch, the two orange & two white on the rear are not connected ATM.

Rear just needs the "light" in the towbar thinking about, but it's pretty much there now ...

Front will get wipers & fake lights in the bottom of the wings :)

JR, you are officially cooler, more awesome, more ultimate, than CHUCK NORRIS...

No seriously, like I said on the first page of this thread, "I've always wanted one of these" I now want to edit my statement to: "I want this one..." Everything about this thing is awesome.

On another note, good job on the lights. All of my trucks have lights cause I run them mostly at night. My Crew cab has four 15000 MCD LEDs in the light bar on the roof. My lastest F350 bodied CC01, I've just built a 10 LED light bar with 18000 MCD Ultra bright 30 degree LEDs. It lights up the road 10m infront of the truck... :silly:

Well I don't like to "correct" someone when they're being complimentary, but ...

1 - No-one is cooler than Chuck Norris :y:

2 - This is my 2nd Cheetah (in the same thread, I'll admit) - the one that started red is now green, and the one that started green is now red, i.e.

How did I miss that? I'll still take the last one off your hands...

Had a bit of "fun" starting on the chassis...

Front end built after the third attempt (unclear manual with pointless inversions between stages):

Front torsion bars ... I broke 4, what's there now is just for show. So, just like when they aren't broken then

Spool gear didn't seem to have any threads, so I had to tap some:

Gearbox in progress:

Nice work again there Jonny! Not a fan of lights on toy cars but that's nicely done!
Without reading back, what/how was the chroming done on the winch, jerry-cans etc?

The torsion bars & gash gearbox on these has always been a subject that pokes my brain with a pointy-stick, I keep thinking about getting another of these for a "make it better" project. There's lots of bits about the chassis that really appeal to me & I'm surprised they lack the popularity of other Tamiya offerings. One day, when I don't have a mirrion other things to do...

The "chrome" is "Silver Hook" brand chrome paint - it looks better in the photos that IRL/

Re the suspension, there is a little space over the front wishbones so a monoshock is a possibility, if you lose the radiator anyway... it would have to be very small diameter (like Grasshopper size) with a very hard spring. I don't think there's enough space on the back for anything.

The torsion bars from the re-re XR311 aren't really an option - you'd also need the lower wishbones as they're slotted rather than having a square keyway, and the extra slot to square conversion widgets - I don't see many kits being split for spares, and they don't seem to be available as spares in their own right.

My previous fix (layers of styrene above the front wishbones, and below the rears) improves things, but it's ugly. The "improvement" I saw on TC - clear 1mm slotted between the wishbones - just isn't working for me.

The wishbone keyways are pretty fragile on old wishbones, so I don't see making a beefier torsion bar being a fix - not unless you can make metal wishbones & torsion bar fittings too - that may be an option for you though :)
