LEGO, LEGO, LEGO!!! 1 year 10 months ago #79610

Some may have noticed that I haven't been here as freequen as usual lately.
I infact got a message wondering if I'm okey. I'm, but between my ME illness and my new hobby vintage LEGO, my spare time has been bound up to those points and I have also seen several doctors and hospital. Seems several of my issues flare up when winter is approaching.

Anyway my LEGO interest got kickstarted by finding there are leds sets for Lego and I wanted to find led set for my Speed Champion.
Which there is plenty of.
Then my brain got thinking, wonder if there is 1x1 led plates available seperate, so I can illuminate the old Classic Town cars, which btw I never have seen anyone do so far..
By this I then started to figure out which led types was uses and if I can make it a bit cheaper by doing it myself.
Not helping was the fact my mate also has started this hobby as we have exchanged ideas and kit numbers etc.

So my plan is to build a sort of LEGO city with only Classic Town vehicles etc. Back in the day these sets only was labeled as Legoland.
My interest is 1980 - to late 90s. Earlier is too vintage for my liking as cars had no doors, just bricks.
Since I live in a small apartment I have no room for a full city it will more be like a LEGO street on a shelf.
And the light grey road plates is the only ones that will do for me.

So the last month or so I have collectes this:

And yesterday I got these sets:

And yesterday I received 50x 0402 leds to light up my vehicles. Those are tiny tiny and measures only 1x0.5mm!!!!
Fits the old town cars perfecly behind the lense!

On the market there is 0402, 0603, 0805 smd leds used for lightning LEGO kits. The bigger, the more light they give. In many cases too much.
I use warm white as they can be used behind any color of glass.
Plan is to power vehicles and buildings. Former by either 312 hearing aid batteries, CR2032 batteries or USB power. By USB power you can run as much as 100 leds by 1A USB charger.
I will make magnetic bricks so I can remove vehicles if any need.
Road plates will have foam under it so I can run wires.
Some of my sets misses stickers, these will be repro ones from a store in Netherlands.
Also some of my sets is missing bricks, those will be oredered from Bricklink.

By no means I will quit RC, just now I will concentrate on LEGO for a few months.
I have also sold most of my Hot Wheels collection to raise some funds for LEGO.

Yah, Lego's.  I still love playing with the stuff.  Have been ordering customised Mini Figs, for my daughter of course

I had similar idea with the LED's.  Bought a bunch of 2x1 clear and clear/green bricks, and some clear heads.  Had some spare 2mm LED, that I'd use way to thick wire on.
The SMD's are a great idea, might look into getting some.

My idea worrked!
6x 0402 smd led with pre soldered wires.
I used a 1x2 tile and two patches of copper tape to solder all positive and negative wires. Placed behind the driver as "junction box"
A pair of the 30cm cut off wires was then guided out by the 1x4 yellow rocker panel plate.
For power I used a CR2032 battery holder and a servo plug and a leg cut off from a normal led as jumper, or in my case on/off switch.

Here I'm ready to collect all black and red wires

This is how the lights looks in real life

Had to test in the Lego street

Christmas is nearing, so the house got some lights.

And here is how tiny those 0402 leds are. Can you see it??

With power on

And I forgot to tell you I have been 3d modeling in the Bricklink studio.
Here is stock 6634

Modded

With lights on
With this I could visually see how it would look with leds installed

Then I did one of the semi trucks from the 6393 kit

Modded

Then I did the tow truck from 6393.
Boom was a pita to do!

I'm fan of these old legoland. Ultra basic sets but nostalgia is here. I have to refind mine.

Yeah this epoke of Lego is my childhood.
Albeit I did not have many, they was played with for hours. Later turned into custom creations.

I wanted to see if I can come up with a better idea for my on/off switch. Currently I use a BEC plug and a leg from a led shaped as U. Same concept as on my 1:87 Peterbilt.

So I made a magnet switch.
1x2 tile with a bit from knife blade glued to the underside and a 1x2 plate which I drilled two 3mm holes for 3mm magnets

Snaps firmly together by cutting some material of the studs

Still fits onto a plate fine

Underside of the 1x2 plate

By solder wires to the magnets it will become a magnet switch.
Idea of this comes from Bevinsbricks which has a similar product, only with 1x2 plates and magnets on both sides, to fit between floors in houses etc...
