I only just now noticed that turning the brackets 90 degrees would probably solve the problem for the most part...

yeah i have looked at that option, also drilling the hole out in the U bracket so it fits into the 5mm lug (i think) on the underside of the upright

Could be I'm using the Super Hornet U-brackets. Don't really remember. I'd have to compare... :S

anyone know if i can buy the special screws that fit the bottom of the shocks to the suspension arms and the longer steering arms seperately?
if not, i figure i am going to drill right through the hole in the suspension arm and just use a nut and bolt instead and try and make my own steering arms

Looks like any 'ole 3x20mm screws will do... if I understand what you mean.

These are the vertical pins that go through the steering knuckle :

The U-bracket for the top is in the elaborate screw bag A from the Rising Fighter so that's not very interesting :

But I think you'll also be needing some of the screws...

if so, what are the BA17 screws for that you say i need. they look like the pins that screw into the blind holes for the bottom of the shocks? :side:
oh, just seen your edit. i just use 3mm allen bolts and nuts to secure the uprights on to the arms

BA15, BA17, BA20 and BA21 are unavoidable parts. Never underestimate a modification. :S
I hadn't gotten to the proper tie rods on my own Grasshopper...
The other items needed (screws) are quite generic.

So that would leave just the steering rods (BA20-BA21)...
I think you could either source the right lengths (Tamiya parts) or fabricate some.
But giving it the right bend to fit in the servo saver doesn't sound like an easy job.
Another option would be to get some 3mm threaded steel - and the correct ball connectors.
You'd also have to put some ball ends on the servo saver.
That would get rid of all the slack in the steering though. B)

It would look more or less like this (rods on both sides of course) :

Tamiya 51111 are the connectors/adjusters (rod ends) that would match best.
And 50590 the 4mm metal ball ends that would go on the servo.
Possibly fixated with some generic nuts.

I'd check first if there's enough room so the nuts (or thread) don't hit the servo...
In that cased you'd also need a high torque servo saver - but I think it'll fit.
